Time to try to tune down my PSOne emulator to some decentish sound before continuing the gameplay.

We need some sort of alert.

Everytime you post, there is a warning telling you gonna page, and asking you to confirm twice if you do want to be the first in the new page.

Awwwwwe ***, get ready for TEN THOUSAND "belle is back" things wherever you get your internets from.

This is hopefully the only case of that for me. My feed from even the small dips I take into other social media don't tend to include stuff like that.

In fact, I legitimately thought you were referring to some sort of Beauty and the Beast thing until I looked it up (in a private browser, thankfully).

On a similar note, I always find it a bit humorous that NPCs almost always have unique names, even in games with a ton of characters. As a matter of practicality I understand why that is, but I just imagine a world where parents have to consult a database of every other name in existence and come up with one that nobody has taken yet.

It’s why the Firstname Lastname format in XIV is so good, and the Legacy(?) name in SWTOR - opens up so many more naming opportunities when you’re not just trying to find one unique name.

Both like and dislike buttons are “attention” buttons. Using it is always a win for the one upvoted/downvoted.

not always, i don't want to know how many live times shitty tech advice videos have eaten away ever since youtube decided to remove the downvote button.

I think Panta was referring to the forums. But you're right, I really liked being able to avoid wasting my time with a YouTube video that had 99% downvotes for wasting other peoples' time.

I really don't get that concept at all.

Apparently I use youtube wrong, I've never watched a video where I needed other people to tell me it was correct or not.

I cannot imagine a scenario where I'm watching something and being unable to see dislikes makes me confused on reality.

Things like that do exist, for sure, my question is why are you looking for them. It's like going to page 319 on a google result instead of page 1. You're doing it to yourself. If you search how to make scrambled eggs and you end up on how to basic... well, you done *** up.

...Then again, people need other people to tell them stats on gear are good. So.... yeah.

It's more for at a first glance if you're looking for how-to videos such as:

"How to mod your bidet to spray extra hard!" or "How to change spark plugs on your car"
So when you start whatever video and see it has 29349 Likes and 3 Dislikes, you know you found the right video right away without having to watch the entire thing.

Most how-to videos seem safe away from people smashing Like to troll or "for the lulz, man"

I used to enjoy seeing people give dislikes at all the media fearmongering, made me think theres still sane people. You can still see dislikes, there's a lot of addons now that will enable it on most browsers.

I also think its important to not foster the dumb carebear alliance that tries to give everyone a safe space bubble. Altho I have to admit its kinda nice knowing that any video I post wont have haters instantly dislike it, they prolly wont bother now. I used to have people that literally subbed to me just to dislike my videos lol.

Towards the end just before they did this change I had a suspicion there was a lot of bot activity for likes/dislike too tho, that might have had an influence on the change. Most don't like watching videos that have many dislikes or they will go into it with that in mind and it can influence their opinion.

That's the thing. Anything other than entertainment tends to have few views and likes in the first place. Do you watch the video with 130 views or the video with 145 views? Back in the day you could click on both. One would have 11 likes and 2 dislikes, while the other would have 1 like and 15 dislikes. They're both trying to tell you the same thing, but one of them might not be solving the issue correctly, or poorly explains the process.

When you're already frustrated from wasting 2 hours trying to fix something yourself, sitting through a 3-minute video where a guy talks for 150 seconds about his life story and "smash that like button" and then he moves the mouse so fast in his 360p camera-recorded video that you couldn't even tell what just happened is absolute hell.

And then there are just some videos uploaded even by some people who are usually good that are utter trash. Without seeing the dislike bar, you might waste another 5, 10, 15 minutes while hoping it gets better or maybe it's a joke and you're waiting for a good punchline. But seeing a dislike bar that's even 50/50 is a good indicator that it's not going to get better and it's not worth your time.

A couple years ago when our water heater had some weird flashing error and had to restart it, I was looking for videos about what it could be etc. Of course the first one was basically a glorified ad like
"So, the lights are blinking. There's a code to the pattern and I'll explain what each one means, but first a sales pitch from RichyCo Brand water heaters. i tell you hhhhwat, these things won't break. No having to worry about error lights or anyt" *skip to new video* lol

*winces* Ooooh.... or the ones that go on for 2-3 minutes about nothing important at all and then tell you to go to a web site or register for some kind of help service.

ok new idea. Bar Nun. Catholic church themed bar/restaurant. You walk in and the tables are lined up on either side of the main walk way like pews, and the stage(?)/altar is where the bar is. You get free communion when you sit down made of a shot of the house wine and freshly made rolls. All the wait staff and bartenders are wearing those sexy nun costumes we've all seen at halloween. When you get your check, it comes on a collection plate. Instead of prayer beads, the nuns all have an-.... nvm that's going too far. I have found the line. Anyway, Sunday is all day happy-hour, and we have specials on the lamb. The booths along the walls are all done like confession booths. Stained glass windows that depict boozing and indulgence.

if you're PC starts randomly freezing and you trying to find a tutorial that goes beyond the run CHKDSK, install latest drivers and restart your computer routine then you start to value the dislike bar.
they are just one indicator but lots of dislikes are SUS so you get active, start forwarding the video or check comments for more info instead of wasting 2-3 more minutes watching befor catching on to the fact you're not getting what you came for.

for tutorial and teaching related subjects it can be a huge time safer, it's way less relevant for entertainment topics imho.

You can infer the video quality by the amount of views and view/like ratio (generally around 10% of viewers tend to like a video)

But generally youtube isnt a great way to deal with tech stuffs.

Too niche, normally fewer viewers.

For PC fixes, they involve too many configuration to pinpoint a specific cause / solution. For example, the problem pf 100% Disk usage on notebooks that i had for years. The fixes just list like 7 different solutions. The fact at best 6 of them will fail (most likely all the 7) shouldnt be a reason for dislike.
