I've got that problem with grocery products. Any time I find something I really like and start buying a lot of it, suddenly it stops being stocked anywhere near me.

I bought some spicy onion ring chips (but was made out of peas instead) on a whim once and the next time I went to the store they were nowhere to be found. I asked someone about them and they said they didn't even carry that brand. (iirc it was called PeaTos)

I like every pea based chip I've tried. They usually get a pallet or cases when they're new. They sell terribly cause "get that healthy ***outta here" and you never see them again unless you go online.

I was given "vegan pulled pork" the other day. Apparently nobody eats a certain part of jackfruit so it's dirt-cheap and it has the texture of pulled pork when cooked.
It wasn't terrible when I mixed it with regular pulled pork, but on its own it had no flavour at all. We had some left over after finishing the meat, so I tried making a sandwich out of it in the hopes to not throw out any food. I got a few bites in before I literally started gagging.
I'm doubtful I could pretend a carrot is a hot dog. As much as I love carrots, there's just no way.

I have no issue how one chooses to live their life. But at least be honest about it. I'm so tired of Vegan foods named for what they "sorta" look or taste like. I don't call beef "seasoned portabella mushrooms", don't be calling jackfruit pork.
It's about advertising and brain chemistry.
That's why they spend millions on making it look like and taste like and fake blood, instead of just making white squares.

oh I know the why- you're dead right they they've chosen an unpopular lifestyle with zero justification in our biology to follow, and they gotta make themselves feel good about it by suckering in others to say "well sure! that looks tasty!"
I mean, I try every plant based/lab grown thing I can. when you pile all the ***on that everyone insists on having you literally can't tell the difference. As soon as you DROWN it in 5 sauces it could be literal sawdust and cardboard.
BUT they need it to LOOK like it, and you can't CALL it something else or their brain will short circuit.

There's a part of me excited for advances in lab-grown meat. I know right now it's not particularly healthy and it's pretty expensive, but they're going in a good direction.

The fact that plantbased food costs more to buy than actual meat is the killer.
Real chicken is a dollar a pound. Plant based chicken is *** $10 a pound.
It's infuriating. But also I "understand" why. They have to recoup R&D but it simply doesn't work. No one is ever going to try it when its 10 god damn times more.
(and make no mistake, that's on purpose. They do not want you to stop consuming cow and chicken)

All the vege / vegans ordered imitation meat dishes, my omnivorous date and I ordered actual vegetable dishes...

2, Oriental grocery stores are chock full of imitation meat products at reasonable prices. I prefer tofu. I can make vegan chili that no meat eater has ever called me out on. I should do that more often.
Yeah tofu based stuff has been around forever and is out of that phase. it's the new stuff. The lab created.

You guys talking about vegetarians but just today my mom brought steak for dinner. Yesterday i went to restaurant to eat a steak. Saturday i brought Kaftas.

I've never had tofu (that I'm aware of) but I would be willing to try it. From what I know about it, its bland on its own but it absorbs other flavors very well.
For that chili I mash extra firm tofu into hot flavored oil with a spatula making little ground beefish grains.
Also tofu scramble with turmeric is scramble eggs sub.
