Random Thoughts.....What Are You Thinking?

Black Mirror being one of the very few things I actually recommend watching.

Basically, time dilation torture for your consciousness. Live a thousand years in a minute. Or being uploaded into an inanimate object to spend the equivalent of centuries in solitude. That kind of ***.

Torture of the body is temporary. Torture of the mind is forever. The single most terrifying thing. To exist, unable to do anything with it.

Definitely watch those two (white christmas, black museum) and nose dive. Then the other ones if you're hooked.

***. Terrifying. Not in the slasher murderer oh my god scary way but the jesus christ I hope that doesn't happen in my lifetime terrifying.

Science doesn't actually understand consciousness, so using a TV show or video game as a source isn't all that helpful. The writers are just using cherry picked unproven theories from neuroscientists and others. Nobody knows how it actually works.

There is also a theory that when you fall asleep you're basically losing your current consciousness and for want of a better word "dying", only for a totally new consciousness to be re-created the next day based on your brain patterns and memories. As such, every time you wake up it's not really you as you were yesterday either, and you may do things differently than you would of the previous day.

If your brain patterns and memories were uploaded to a clone and "you" were ended and the clone woke in your place, is that any less you than waking after 8 hours sleep?

Who knows.

That's a great terrifying thought, every time you go to sleep you prestige yourself. 10,000 yous locked in never ending nightmares in your own head. Lovely.
