I have some friends from university that I hadnt talked at all from 2012 till ~2018, when one of them invited me to the whatsapp group. Since then we always talks like at least once every two days despite many of them I have not see physically for over a decade.

Still everyone is friendly and we even play a betting game on internet, what help us to keep our conversation for years.

There isnt anything wrong with the tool per se. Fire can burn and leave scars to people, still, the benefits of it is clear for everyone to see.

Ok, lets make an exercise, back to 90’s how i normally socialize with people.

Well i used to live in near countryside-like place. Like 5km away from a very small town where i studied.

Majority of my life the most socialization was during school time, normally during morning, then the rest of day alone in my house studying, because i hadnt that much freedom due living far from the town.

Maybe when internet slowly became more normal i used to hope some friend would send me emails to some random talk? But that barely happened.

The few days i had to play with friends were on weekends where i could visit my best friend, then we could play some N64 or Saturn.

Yeah my young days were kinda boring. While i dont dislike, i never felt like going back.

I love how people went nuts when newspapers came out mass produced when the printing press was created.

Watched the first couple episodes of Squid Game. The trailer and the first episode don't seem crazy appealing, didn't understand the phenomenon.

It's definitely something you could easily sleep on if you didn't know it's much more than that.

I grew up in the suburbs. My entire neighborhood was full of kids my age, so I had a lot of people to hang out with. I could easily walk or bike to a friend's house, even with my skin disease, any day. It was almost impossible to not hang out with people.

My high school was populated with people from all over the city, with none from my neighborhood. The bus was out of the question because of my aforementioned disability, taxis were out of the question because of money, and both parents worked.

Then came FFXI, where I could hang out with people without having to leave the house. Thanks, internet <3

So every job on my new guy for my LP of XI is up over 50 now. 34 Blue spells learned... Blue Magic seems to hate me on this character so far, though.

It's crazy how much teleportation is in the game. Today I just realized, even though I think it was this way when I came back to game last time, that the Home Point in Bastok Markets got moved next to Big Sis / Little Bro instead of being by the stairs up to the fountain area near the AH. There's also one on the other side of the AH... and one by the MH.

I get these are all for hyper convenience, but gawddamn I feel like I teleport everywhere. There home points, books, outposts, warp ring(infintiely reusable, wow, goodbye BLM sub for Warp), Unity NM location warp, Voidwatch warps, and probably several others!

Questing the WHM crag teleport spells felt almost redundant...

It made me think nostalgically back to watching shouts in Jueno or Whitegate with WHMs being like, "Teleports Dem/Holla/Mea 1k, Yhoat/Vahzl/Altep 2k!" and stuff like that heh.

I think the last I can remember shouting for a warp of some sort was shouting for a Retrace... I think I paid 5k. I think the year was 2010... maybe.

Its a bliss that the game came to realization that walking for hours just to get to a point is no quality time, its not gaming time. Its just a waste of time.

You can consider the very first exploration a quality playing, like unrevealing Yorcia Weald or Kamihr Drifts for the very first time. But then, you dont need to walk entire zone every single time you want to get to the other side. Nowaday people valuate better their time, and they can just choose a more enjoyable gameplay than some other that force players to waste their time.

Still, that many teleporting options just gives away how nothing of that was planned. They just kept throwing more and more options without a pattern instead making just one consistant way to travel. Kinda silly having to use a warp ring, move to a HP, then move to a HP with a survival book near, then use the survival book to reach a zone and still needing to walk like 5 minutes by chocobo. This path isnt ununsual with some Ambuscade with hard to find type of mobs.

Its not rocket science but there is no way to lose fat when you have no control of your own meals.

My mom is the responsible for cooking at home. But the thing is that her objective in cooking is to provide 1) variety of food and 2) tasteful food.

But both kinda destroys the purpose of losing fat as you receive different influx of calories and fat, while good taste generally are dependent how much fat that meal has. Also, depending how good a meal can be, you eventually will eat more or less, increasing the chance of losing control.

Its a hard decision but unfortunelly its about time to tell my mom that I dont want her to cook for me anymore.

Thing is, is unless they added the teleports in the first place, then the travel time couldn't be a waste of time, because it was required to get to the place you needed to be to complete your objective. Ergo, it was part of the objective. Same way how in real life, if you need to get to a particular city for a competition, then you have to allot yourself travel time because it's part of what you are doing.

With the way that teleportation is now, we might as well sync every zone to the mog house entrance with some quest, and then be able to exit the mog house into say... Quicksand Caves... or some ***lol.

Like, I'm not really legitimately complaining. It's a godsend for recording, because I don't have to edit out intensive amounts of repetitive travel, because surely it's even less fun to watch someone travel from Point A to Point B than it is to do it.

I just feel like the world suffers for it a little bit, and it also devalues stuff like teleport/warp spells, as well as say... the Airship Pass.

Woooo, congrats! You got an Airship Pass from the Archduke himself! Congrats! Now you can travel more slowly than just walking out to the HP crystal and instantly zoning into the Metalworks from Ru'Lude Gardens! Yeehaw!

Like if I want an overworld I can just fly over/teleport away from, I play FFXIV :P

As someone who can never again taste his mother's cooking... I advise you to not do that.

Let her cook for you, but develop discipline for yourself. Restrain yourself from overeating. Remind yourself you can have the leftovers of the good tasting meal later as another meal.

You only get to eat your mom's cooking so many times in life. Sad but true.

Well, what they could do is, if you will never beat the concorrency in terms of efficiency, at least make something worthwhile during the trip to justify using it.

They could play some movie during the travel or serve some good meal during the travel so people could use again the airships.

I get your point but normally the nostalgia of eating mothers food comes together with her good skills. Unfortunelly I never thought my mom as a good cooker. Most of the time I actually feel her food is just tasteless. Or just some lazy cooking that food becomes hard or unpleasant to taste.

I mean, surely in the future I will miss many things about my mom. But unfortunelly food isnt one of them.

On the flip side, as everyone will meet in the other side, all fareways arent but a short "see you soon".

Freedom of choice is an abstract concept that in fact hardly exist.

Human beings are susceptible to the groups they are inserted. Instinctively they mimic the common behaviour to be accepted in that group. After all, the lone human is weak against the nature. He needs to join others so they can survive in the wildness.

As you instinctively imitate behaviours, thinkings, gestures, culture etc of your group, how can you say youre free to choose when from start you were never free to decide how you should be?

In a sense, you can say the only ones really free to choose are the sociopaths. They can act accordingly to what their guts says.

OR maybe the freedom to choose is not but a sociopathy?

I'm actually kinda torn on your guys' discussion on fast-travel in XI. On one hand, it absolutely makes the world feel smaller (especially since Unity warping allows you to go to places you hadn't even previously visited). It also saps a lot of the life from the game. You don't see other people running by, you don't pass by and have a heart attack seeing a notorious monster. It takes the thrill away from Sneak wearing off in the middle of a Quadav dance-off.

Part of the thing that separates FFXI from the rest of the crowd is it really took advantage of the first "M" in MMO. Most other games tend to make the cities into a lobby, and then the game sends you and your party to an instance. But a lot of XI's content takes place outside of those instances, in the lobby itself. You see the other parties grinding, you can watch a party take on a boss monster, toss that poor bugger a Cure as they run into Selbina.

But on the other hand, FFXI isn't really that game anymore. The population is small enough that a lot of zones lack any other players at all, and NM drops like the Emperor Hairpin aren't even worth going for. So is all of the fast travel justified? It does make me wonder if they reworked the game so as to become less top-heavy if they'd keep the excess of convenience...

The way Martin handled success and legend status in the fantasy world sadly makes me happy Tolkien was long gone and only his kids could *** and micromanage everything once his works went to visual media.

I think the base material may have possibility for some enjoyable content with this new series- but I definitely feel Martin's role in it now should basically to shut his mouth and just stay home cashing checks. The less input that man has, the better.
