When I was little, I visited Grandma in Central America, and she had this little shop out in the country on a dirt road, and she'd sell soda in plastic bags, to keep the bottles.
Soda and Juice in bags sounds normal to me. Milk though??? I guess...might make sense if they still did the glass bottle thing...

But seriously (for the most part) I'm pro recycling. Heck the town/city I used to live in upgraded the collection site to automate the separation so people don't need to separate it anymore. Which I can certainly understand as people suck. (So does trying to keep multiple bins for different things).

We have recycling stations all over the place and a lot of apartment complexes require you to sort at least some your garbage
Recycling culture is pretty recent in Italy. It's only been few years that it's become mandatory to differentiate(sanctions are pretty high too if you don't do it).

Our cabin is pretty old though so it doesn't have electricity without the generator so it was just easier to throw stuff out that way (pretty far from the town too)
I mean we have a small fridge that runs off propane and if it gets full we put some things in a hole in the ground with a lid on top lol
We also have a small creek with cold, fresh water from the mountain that we cool drinks in and get water from (have a pipe that leads from the creek that you collect water from)
It's pretty basic but it's a place you go to once a year or so, no big deal
