There's more than 3, and it isn't easy to assume...

Seifer was never a SeeD and no, it didn't. Maybe there's things lost in translation, but it's still factually wrong in multiple places, regardless of "timing."

Those things only sound familiar to me because I have been marathon-ing Kitchen Nightmares.

I think if Balamb were going to fall into one of three governments, it'd be closer to Trabia but Balamb seems to be its own entity with a garden to train a mercenary force, thus a force with no ties. Balamb is also described as a "school town" or something.

Galbadia Garden was also largely unaffiliated with the Galbadian government with the exception that the Galbadian army recruited from garden and garden assisted alumni in getting military jobs. Galbadia Garden became what it was, a mobile army base, when Edea took it over.

Trabia Garden was a smaller academy working on an exchange program with Balamb, thus we had Selphie who transferred to take the SeeD exam. What was Trabia affiliated with and where did it's staff and students come from? Who knows? One could assume the Trabia crater was once a town or something but this is never mentioned. One could assume Trabia Garden took students from Esther, again this wasn't mentioned so I dunno.

Why were there gardens in Galbadia, Balamb, and Trabia? Because that's where Centran mobile colonies crashed I'd assume.

Seifer was failed on the SeeD exam and iirc, was either 18 or approaching 18 and that was pretty much his last chance to be eligible. Xu told him pretty point-blank "You will never be a SeeD."

EDIT: Oh, and Dollet. I remember Dollet being mentioned as a duchy that fell from its former glory.

The Gardens are independent entities.

The still living countries are Dollet, Esthar and Galbadia. Centra is dead.
Timber, FH, Balamb, Winhill were all just towns.

Yeah, I know. Centra is practically ancient, they are just where the mobile components in the gardens come from. There was technically no evidence Trabia Garden was even built on one.

I'm pretty sure FH is under its own control due to their "get out" attitudes. Unless it's stated otherwise, I'd just assume the town, Balamb, is more affiliated with the Garden than the garden is with it. I really don't remember but FFVIII always confused and fascinated me lore-wise.

Timber was occupied by Galbadia.

Hence the whole resistance thing...

Yeah, but Dollet was still holding out, Galbadia just wanted to use their communications tower afaik. Dollet apparently gave no shits about this so long as it didn't mess with the town.

Wasn't the Centra Ruins an unaltered mobile colony?

EDIT: Google-fu, apparently I just assumed that.

I think they just put up those names on a dartsboard and let fate decide which town was with which faction, after they got drunk on some nice JP whisky and came up with a story to tie everything together while they were wearing their underwear on their head.

Not liking this second chalice dungeon.
First boss was a giant pig that I visceraled by sticking my saw spear up it's overly detailed ***.
Second was three of those giant fat orc guys, one of whom had a gun, in a small room with pillars every few feet.
I'm dreading what awaits me behind door number 3.


Also on my way to door number 3 I stumbled onto some kind of weird meeting of those whacky sack guys. There were a couple of them on a raised area while a giant pig patrolled the ground floor and there was this loud chanting in the room. Thought that was a little weird.

It's the transvestite in the pub in Dollet that hits on Squall.
