To be fair the game upscale well because of its graphical simplicity. Yeah its not colourful and vibrant, but looking at anything produced when FFXI was. Nothing really was lol...
There are still places though which never cease to get a "wow" from me Despite the games age.
(Sky, Rolanberry S at night, Miseraux coast etc.)

I actually had this weird love for Battalia Downs regardless of era, because it was really desolate looking, even more so when it snowed there and the sky got all grey.

Also though, Alzadaal Undersea Ruins. Those underwater viewing windows, with he weird magic wax or whatever lol. Also the sound of running on metal.

Also Altepa desert, if only for my father's comment on it after watching me play for like 1 minute, "My youngest son appears to be fighting some sort of alien monster on an impossible desert planet."

^

I played on my TV last winter (Until March) and have been meaning to set the laptop up for it. At least until I get the office done, which at this rate could be awhile.

If you compare it to other games of that time (PS2/Xbox/Gamecube) then absolutely.

If you compare it to games of this generation it is absolute dogshit.

Also another drawing "finished". Totally not doing a background or actually drawing in the desk. Sorry BR.

XI is bad, graphic wise (and due to age), but it is disguised very neatly, and looked good back then, and decent now, because of graphic upscaling, and because everything has a very well made detailed texture that makes (even re-skinned models) look cool and fresh (when hey came out)

while XIV is pretty, I do kinda miss the detail texture on buildings and gear, as they mostly are just painted over 3d models

XIV's graphics look like a bunch of painted clay models to me. Looks fake, artificial... lacks intricate details and is mostly just plain. Simple things like wood grain are hard to find, even. Details in armor like rivets or leather textures are halfassed and sparse. They should hire a texture artist from a Korean MMO or something.

When I look at most of the gear in XIV it looks like somebody cosplaying as a hero rather than actually wearing battle ready, expensive equipment.

I question whether they could properly texture something that isn't worn by a woman with impossibly huge breasts.

yes, this is what I'm getting at.
the color on XIV items isnt on the little texture there is, but rather on the 3D model of it.
kinda hard to explain since I am not to savy on the terms, but, say...

3d model of an apple.
in XIV the model itself is just a 3d model of an apple, simple texture of an apple, then painted red on top of it, same for green leafs. the shinyness of the apple is just the reflection of the specular layer, giving it a reflective effect.

in XI, the apple is more of a weird hexagon type. since it doesnt have the capacity to reflect light, it is all applied on the .png (example) file used to give it a texture, making it more detailed.

which is a lazy way to fake dyes in xiv, all textures are white and just painted over it, which fade or makes the texture look bad like a pile of clay.

Also, selecting new mods is a difficult and time consuming process.

You can help by PMing Rooks who you would like to be considered for modship and why.

I have a love/hate relationship with POTD.

I love doing it for the tomes and loots.

I just hate the endless grind and no progression groups. Hate when people try to rush floors and skip getting levels and abilities during the leveling floors. Really hate the weakest link barking out orders like everyone's a god damn moron. (Had one particular instance irk me badly. Some marauder fool was barking orders on floors 91-100, with some insanely low pool gear like +25/25 when we started floor 91, *** at me for not using a Resolution Pom on the boss before his summons, because I used the succubus first to bring down his defence)
