***they even made Snow in FFRK horrible. He's considered one of the lowest tier characters in the game. Meanwhile Lightning just got her SSB (which I just pulled, yay!) and is probably one of the top DPS now because of it, Sazh has the most broken relic in the entire game, and Hope/Vanille are both upper mid tier nuking characters with good utility.

Fang just got added and will undoubtedly be bad however.

Well just because someone is like Lightning is, doesn't necessarily make them a bad character. Cloud wasn't exactly a ball of joy towards the end of 7 and Lightning changes through the story like with Hope and stuff. They have plenty of FF games where the main character is upbeat and happy, so it balances out imo.

My main problem with Lightning is that she's essentially early Cloud without the character development. All the negative traits of "Opening Scene" Cloud without any of the arc that fleshes him into a fully realized character.

I'm not a huge Cloud fan either, but at least he develops as a character. Unless they do it in the third game, Lightning doesn't get any of that. Which, really, is a bit of a bummer; FF needed a new face, and having it be a girl would have been a nice change. I'd love for them to turn Lightning into a fully developed character, but they had three games to do it and couldn't get it done. Let's hope the Bro Patrol in XV fares better.
Agreed, honestly they would've been better off putting Terra Branford in a new game or something but that'd cheapen FFVI.

FFVII gets too much hype but it deserves some of it. Cloud goes through a cycle of development, as far as I've seen, Lightning just has a momentary thought of "Maybe I'm a ***." then keeps right on going, never changing and never developing as a character. She's nice to look at, maybe, but she has no real quirks or redeeming factors that make you think "Hey, Lightning is pretty cool/cute/badass/relatable." She has no niche aside from being shoved down our throats, if we have to be convinced we like something, it isn't likable.

That isn't my problem with her, though. I'm fine with characters being unlikable - the problem is that she doesn't really have any depth. Does she get it in the third game? I couldn't quite get there, but if she gets it in the third game then I retract some of my complaints (but not all - it shouldn't take three games to turn the new face of your franchise into something beyond a one-dimensional angst spigot).
