I guess my knowledge of credit and how it functions is petty at best. But I'll start with a bank card and get the ball rolling. Maybe move up to something more prestigious with points/travel rewards, etc. in a year or two. Things that help credit: *History **Age of account (oldest CC you still have active) *Having more than just one or two cards. Having literally a dozen accounts in good standing helps your credit. *On time full payments *Keeping both individual and overall credit utilization below 30% total *Keeping a balance above 0 on your monthly statement (it is worse than going above 30%) *An increase in credit. This not only helps with utilization, but shows creditors you can be trusted. *Being an authorized user on someones account who has good credit. I do this for my ex still since her mother harmed her credit when she was a child. Things that hurt credit: *Not paying off your monthly balance. *Hard pulls (of info) to your account. These are done when you apply for various objects of credit. *Balance of 0 at the end of the month *Using more than 30% of your credit limit. **Use micro payments if you must due to a low limit. *Having incorrect (in this case negative) reports from people with similar names on your history. This happens, and it is good to check your credit history. *Bankruptcy, liens, etc. Yikes, I think I really need an ELI5 version of credit etiquette and the rundown of how it works and what to do appropriately. I'd say 75% of that flew over my head :/ All I've been doing for the past 10 years is budgeting what I earn as a bachelor to live a somewhat comfortable life. But obviously to get ahead and move forward I'll need to venture into more things like this if I ever hope to own a car, or a house. Let's put it this way, Ronda losing is overall a better outcome for women's MMA, as this will garner significantly more media coverage and attention than if she won. Not to mention this helps reduce the perception that there aren't enough viable female fighters in the sport. Also I'm sure both their managers are fully erect over the inevitable rematch to come.

Well, as far as credit is concerned, I'm pretty much at the bottom of the barrel with either lack of established credit or bad credit based on previous events beyond my control. Nevertheless, I'd like to put things forward and on the up and up, so I'll see about applying for something modest and use it to slowly bring things back up and maybe add a part or two for my PC here and there.
Yeah, sadly my initial credit establishment was under pressure of being within very unfortunate circumstances with little to no alternatives; and though I was told it would be taken care of and managed, it likely was done so on less than agreeable terms. My ignorance on the matter certainly didn't help either.
Old news aside, it sounds like a good way to treat big purchases that lie just below the limit is to sort of, put a down payment on it shortly after purchasing before your statement/bill for the month comes in? I'll check out Mint, it sounds quite useful as most of my budgeting is done mostly in my head, occasionally on paper, and simply done by the means of estimating bills within my existing balance from my checking account.
As for credit cards; I'm definitely going to wait til the new year, as I rather not have any more "tracking" to do when budgets are already insane with the holidays coming up. It's kind of sobering to realize how uneducated and prepared I am as an adult. Hopefully soon I'll be able to put on my big-boy-pants and get ***sorted and figured out.
