Couldn't you test out of that class? I mean I took it a few semesters back for an easy A, but that was about it.
Assuming it's CompTIA, you don't even need to take the class, you just usually get an exam voucher that's worth about the same as the class costs. Anyone can go into a testing center and take the A+ exam.
It does tend to be a required part of a lot of IT programs, though.

Well there's that, if you have your A+ you can typically test out of the class with just that certification.

Yeah, but once you have more specialized credentials and certs, A+ is kinda meaningless for employment.
"Oh, you're a network engineer with certifications from Cisco, Microsoft, etc but you don't have A+? No thanks"
