Looking at that, it makes me wonder how XIV 1.0 was even ambitious enough to believe that they wanted to forgo auto-attack. I mean... wtf.

It's just that sudden realization that you're an adult when you start comparing and oogling over knife block sets.

Still trying to decide if I should drop the $23 premium to get this

over this

I'm sure both are fine, but forged blades tend to be of higher quality and better balanced. But to an average joe like me, a knife is a knife as long as it's sharp and cuts my food.
Plus that dark cherry wood block is quite sexy.

I'd get the bottom one due to all of them having grips. I have some of those all metal knifes. Pain in the *** totally not worth it.

I like how minimalistic it is and the block color, but strangely it's cheaper and supposedly inferior to the top one which has forged blades, and the walnut colored block is meh too.

Like I said, a knife is a knife to me as long as it cuts, so I'll probably go with the cheaper sexier one and be perfectly content. Just have to give em care and clean/dry em when done with use so they don't rust or dull on me.

I thought it was weird how the steak knives on the top one don't have any grips on the handles. I wonder if that was a choice of compromise for price or looks.

Honestly I've never been a huge fan of sets. To me it just screams "Buy our lower quality products in bulk that aren't nearly as good!"

Not that there is anything wrong with buying things in bulk, but... I just like to know that every piece is of good quality.

I personally would buy each piece individually.

This would be the best choice, but alas, buying quality forged knives is looking to be $30-40 a knife, which just isn't pragmatic for my bachelor lifestyle. I think I'll get the cheap block as a starter kit and see where it takes me. It should be worth the price of admission, and if my demands increase I'll take your suggested route.

You don't need every knife in that block though, some are very situational depending on how you cook. I would buy the ones you need right now, for sure, and then if you have a moment where you feel the need for a specialty tool, you have reason to get it.

I only bought a block after doing that, and I take great care of my knives. They aren't all from the same company and they don't all match, but at least I know that each one is good and I know how to use each piece well.

Unless you cook super fancy and complicated things I would just get the block knives, you can just sharpen them whenever they get a bit dull lol. You're not some professional chef >.>

Yes, but that block set is also 60 dollars. Individual quality knives for what you need now is cheaper and will last you longer in the long run.

Eh, the dilemma is I'm not as much a cook as I'd like to be, and I'm not really sure what pieces are necessary for my (minimalistic) needs. Hence the concept behind this catch-all block set.
I rather just cheaply cover all my bases and get a better understanding of what works best for what and move onto higher grade pieces from there.
