I honestly think it had nothing to do with XIV and more so to do with the console versions limiting how much they could update the game. The coding is so old and out of date they couldn't fix enmity in it cause the coding couldn't handle it.

Also, the game is 13 years old.

That is a long *** time. The game needed to have an ending. All good things do, it's part of what makes them great.

And damn it, now I need to go back and finish the ***I missed.

There were people saying XI was dead around the time of Abyssea and blaming XIV for it. They'll do it again. The part that makes it sound like the end is the mobile bs, they could extend the game just after dropping consoles but that'd require recoding a bunch of stuff.

The Mobile stuff has me confused. I have no idea how in the world you will play FFXI on a phone. I mean it's hard enough to play on a computer with all those macros.

I dunno. I'm not really sure why they'd bother if they are discontinuing development. "Come play a 13-year-old game...that we don't make content for anymore."

I have to admit though .... Grandmasters looks kinda cool. It looks like a turn based FFXI >_>

Still possible that the outrage will make Matsui change plans, but it's unlikely. You gotta kinda feel bad for the guy. The game went to ***as soon as he took over.

I think Tanaka had a roadmap set out and he heavily altered it or ignored it though.

The XI crew in general had a bad habit of implementing ***they never completed. Pankration was never really completed, there was no real point to doing it so it died. Ballista was more or less a basic PvP with no real point to it. XIV isn't much different in this regard but it seems you get achievements, mounts, etc. for playing PvP.

All well, I already quit FFXI anyway, so no harm/no foul.

Now if I ever do go back to MMO, it will have to be FFXIV....
