I have a picture I'll PM you later of what some dumbasses did, I asked a guy to patch a newly run jack labeled 14J-13, so closet 14, Panel J jack 13, he said he patched it, and I was still getting nothing.
We go look, apparently the idiots ran the cable below 13, I think they were 37, 38 and 39 respectively (just not labeled), didn't see/care about the bottom row of numbers so just used the top to label the jacks. Also they *** up jacks beside where they installed theirs.
It was a clusterfuck, I'm told they got it squared away, I was just happy that the jack worked, I came back the next day and installed the PC as I was almost on my way out that day, I just was checking up on it since I knew they ran the cables, as I wanted it out of the way, instead of waiting to hear confirmation.
People don't understand the importance of cable management, and I'd review and probably fire the network staff if I walked into a closet that looked like that, as they obviously aren't doing their jobs.
You should see the old phone cables when they get screwed up. Especially a crossover box with the old paper pulp or PIC cables.
We had a crossover box that is coming in a multiplexed to distributing lines, it had a few 600+/800+/1000+ pair cables hooked up and a truck took the whole crossbox out. Those guys were out there for almost 48 hours with two different shifts.
If they didn't have those wires properly sorted, if would of been cheaper to make everyone get cable phone service than to replace it. Since I did utilities before, I felt bad for the guys and got them coffee and let them use my bathroom if they needed to.
There's severe importance in documentation and labeling.
Nobody expects ***to hit the fan, but when it does, it's best to have an umbrella and a mop.
