I certainly understand your hesitation, but not everything is cancerous. Though I think I'm pretty desensitized from the internet in general. Almost nothing phases me anymore :/

There should be a forum rule where if you have to post on your own thread to keep it alive, it should automatically be locked....

Why? There's a reason why almost all (well, all but 1) of the threads stay dead when the topic has been discussed (or in the 1's case, all opposing opinions are deleted and the posters forcibly removed just because they don't agree with the OP), so the only way to bring it to the front page to spread your agenda is to constantly necro it from the dead, except instead of waiting 30 days, he waiting 30 hours.

/pol/, /lit/, /mu/ and /vg/ are decent, depending on the day. You can either learn new things or talk seriously there. /r9k/ is the board you need to avoid if you want to keep your sanity or have had issues with women in the past. /gif/ is pretty good but nsfw.
/soc/ makes for some good fap material. There is stuff for everyone on 4chin.
I used to hang out in a videochat room that was based out of that /soc/ but I never went to 4chan. I was just streaming Skyrim in the room all the time while some "18" year old girl would flash people and everyone else just bitched about LoL. Oh and that one time there was a gay pornstar in the room and he deepthroated a bunch of ***, That was a weird couple of months.
