Well, my friend's new PC is up and running. I went ahead and bought windows and his motherboard for him since he would have otherwise had to wait an extra week or two.
Just need to get him some corsair AF140s in blue since his intake fans are red while everything else was picked out with a theme for blue.

It isn't bad considering it is his first personal build.
Sure AMD has been tweeking and selling the same piledriver architecture for ages now, but it is still a solid contender and I am certainly not one to judge one that has joined the brotherhood of PC supremacy.
That awful awkwardness of being tired, but unable to sleep.
Also I'm getting him a new mechanical keyboard and high precision gaming mouse for xmas, so he won't have to use those cheap *** $10 department store KB & mouse. All he truly needs now is that 970, more high capacity HDDs, and some decent monitors.
I'm gonna see if I can sneak in one of my old monitors while he's asleep so he can try extended desktop for the first time.

I tried to go back to a single monitor once... Once you get used to dual display it is impossible not to have the second I think.

He's a bit stubborn and iffy to trying new things, but once he gets to experience a bar set higher, I'm sure he'll see just how glorious it really is. Even I REALLY miss having a second monitor for extended desktop. When I finish Xmas shopping, I'm definitely investing in two thin bezel IPS monitors.
Perhaps one in landscape and the other in profile for better information browsing? Or perhaps both in landscape to extend environments more~
Also my Logitech G700 has been like the best mouse ever. I still use a 360 controller a lot though.
I usually only game on one screen, but have all my extras on the second. Like temp monitoring, winamp, webpages if needed.
Never tried running a game across multiple monitors, I just like being able to max a game out and have it pretty on one... Really thinking I'm gonna get a nice 1440 or 4k monitor after Christmas.

That seems like the best idea if having high detail and frame rates is the objective to gaming. Spanning across a higher resolution will definitely tax your GPU on the VRAM, but considering the 900 series is almost able to run modern games in 4k at respectable frame rates on one GPU alone, it won't be long til nothing is held back.
4k res, on multiple 4k monitors, max settings, hq textures, mods galore, all at 60+ fps, bring it on.

Goodness, I must be dating myself with that statement. You're right, totally forgot. Though I'm still kicking myself because if I had it in me to be Scrooge this year, I could totally get myself a 4790k and a 970.
I am probably getting a 970 next month during Black Friday! Exciting times.
