Stupid tech question!
I've only had AMD based systems, and now I'm going to an Intel system. Planned on formating my SSD and doing a clean windows install, but am I gonna lose my storage drive when creating a partition on it?

Why would you be creating another partition on your storage drive?

Because I usually wipe everything when I rebuild. Just hoping to keep all my movies and music and ***.
Dunno, can usually just plug and play with a spare drive. Didn't know if going AMD to Intel would cause issues or not.
Also PM me your address and stuff and I'll toss that mobo/CPU in the mail this weekend.
As long as you're using the same file system, you won't have an issue on a non-os drive as far as keeping data is concerned (in this case, most likely ntfs, which you will be, cpu is irrelevant, in this case).
I'd unplug all but your OS drive when reinstalling though, the windows installer is kind of HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE, and if it sees partitioned space on another disk, it likes to use it for stuff at times, instead of just your boot disk. That and it prevents accidental "mistakes" of selecting the wrong drive.

The first part was a bit over the top in explanation, basically no, as long as it's not the OS drive the data will stay, just shut down the computer and unplug that drive then install the OS on the other drive (ssd in this case).

So I've installed games on steam a lot. Today is the first time I actually paid attention to it. Now it takes forever for these games to do the first time set up for me. I have finally found out why. It keeps DLing the damn Microsoft.NET framework and VC 2010 distributable to my E:\ Drive then has to extract them from there.
Problem is my E:\ drive is FUBAR. How do I make Steam DL these files somewhere else?

may actually buy a gaming laptop. 900series mobile GPUs aren't much worse than desktop varieties, in fact there's an MSI laptop with dual 970Ms that has been benchmarking around the same, on average, as a desktop 980. pretty unheard of. will only get better with next gen CPUs, too.

Maxwell chips are remarkably power efficient, Broadwell will be too. Battery life won't be that bad. Wouldn't be surprised to see high powered laptops with smartphone level battery lives in the not too distant future.

I meant for the dual 970M's, and phones don't last for ***when playing games either.
