You can get food poisoning from cross contamination of anything, particularly more so if the utensils used aren't properly cleaned.

that's how food poisoning happens. Or at the very least, it just seems random as ***, until you've spent extensive time observing the safety practices and policies put in place by the employees and management.
Which is also why I refuse to work in any fast food place (and most restaurant kitchens) again.

Are those overpriced universal ninja tools worth getting? I don't see much of a market for tools on the AH these days.

They're convenient nevertheless for skilling up using the elemental wheel I'd imagine. Obviously very few are willing to make, let alone purchase each individual tool per scroll in that regard.
Luckily that particular universal tool is much cheaper.
