Okay, so for someone like me that's derping around to finish off their subjobs and hasn't really gotten past level 50 or so, what would be a good use for sparks that is near cap? I don't wanna waste them :(

I should have specified the fact that I am completely out of the loop for contemporary content. I quit when Abyssea was a thing if that gives you an idea of how clueless I might be. Though the converting sparks to gil thing sounds most practical at this point...

Maybe look into some of the lv99 gear they added. Some of them are pretty nice (perception ring, acumen ring) and if you don't have one already, Capacity Ring is pretty nice as well.

I'm not sure on the sparks:gil ratio but that could always work if you're low on money

I'm not hurting on gil, as I managed to sum up about 14m back when brown caskets yielded pretty valuable gear pieces. Obviously that's not the case anymore, and my only real objective for the time being is to establish a base foundation around level 80ish or so then slowly work my way into the modern content rather than diving in head first into 99 and getting lost & frustrated.

Grab a 117 weapon and some of the 117 armor then. That will definitely bring you up to speed and at the very least allow you to participate in Wildskeeper Reives/Skirmish. It will also make all pre-adoulin content easy.

What about those book thingies that help you skill up? Will those only work towards your current cap?

I don't find the skillup books worth it really. You could always sell them for gil as well, if anyone buys them. They work towards current cap, yes, but as you get closer to cap you'll start getting .1s and .2s more often.

Chapters... Not sure what those are, but I presume they're useful for upgrading gear or something? Might be a good idea to start saving those up so when the time comes I can just finish right off the bat eh?

AF and relic gear can be upgraded with those, so they're very useful(since the base gear is easy enough to get). Just the other mats are expensive but you said you have dozens of mil so...
