Pretty late there.

I hadn't been watching the stream in a few hours. Last I saw (around 2:30pm ET, they were still in Pokemon Tower)

Still here in between uninstalling stuff to make room to transfer files to shared folder on old computer so I can transfer it all to my new one.. Lol this is so annoying. Been working on new computer most of the day and I'm not even going to have time to finish before I gotta hook wife's stuff all back up (only have 2 monitors cuz I'll be damned if I'm dragging down the old CRT's from the attic).

Well you're a dude, too so I'm not supposed to win with logic.. So I dunno..

So random question. Anyone ever had a severe fear of flying that they got over? I'm gonna have to sooner or later. For my job we get sent all over the world, and anything over an 8 hour drive, we fly there, so it's gonna happen at some point (and most likely soon, as it is now I'm waiting on the call to tell me where I go next so it could be within days). Planes are like my number 1 phobia. I went to doctor and got anti-anxiety med but afraid that won't be enough.

Maybe I'll just get lucky and panic will over whelm me and I'll pass out on take off and everyone will just assume I'm sleeping.

my bf had a really bad fear of flying. He came by plane to visit me and got over it. I think if you just go on the plane it can help you face the fear.

If you're doing it a lot, you'll probably get over the fear just due to the sheer number of times you have to fly. I'm still afraid of flying, but honestly the worst part is the landing. Everything else is smooth as snot, and oftentimes... boring.

Do yourself a favor, though. Don't watch Fight Club or listen to the song called A320 by the Foo Fighters just before you fly.

Can't just take a train. I mean if I could choose the method of travel I'd just drive but we have to be there in a certain amount of time, that's why we get flown for anything over an 8 hour drive.

@Chu I'm kinda hoping that once I fly, I won't be so afraid anymore. I don't like dealing with the unknown and have a hunch that has a lot to do with it.

@Mag I'm still watching "Air Crash Investigations".. Lol.. I mean I've seen 6 seasons or whatever it's on already. Nothing is really going to make a difference at this point. I've seen so much insignificant ***bring down planes that really shouldn't have, but did.

He sat on that plane for a total of 12 hours round trip. Just buckle in and take a nap :D be over before you know it!

Pop a couple of Xanax before take off, have a few drinks during flight, and you may not even remember the whole ordeal?

Flying is safer than driving, you'll be fine

Was actually hoping for Xanax, but he gave me a weaker drug in the same class, but after talking to some other people I'm not sure I can even use them. It apparently lasts forever. I can't be on my job all drugged up, I'll get kicked straight the hell out of whatever plant I'm working in.

My job is NDT, we go to plants all over the place and test their infrastructure to make sure it's still in good operating order, and if not, we let them know what needs to be repaired/replaced.

Everyone always says it's safer but it's never comforted me :( I think because I'm not in control of the plane. Being driven on the freeways freaks me out, I see death at every turn, but driving on the freeways myself I'm not at all bothered by the experience.

What did you get? Most benzo's have long half-life, but that isn't the same as effect life. Just means it will build up in your system quicker and you will grow a tolerance faster than you would another drug.

Edit to add: Also benzo's aren't like getting high in a normal sense. The main effect they have are a sense of relaxation and sleepiness. So you wouldn't have a drunk like effect on the job, just very care free.

I don't know how that would effect your business persona, but most people can function daily on benzos quite normally.

I have a long (recreational) history with Xanax, one reason I was hoping I'd get that was because I'm so familiar with it and it's effects on me. I know it makes me just not give a ***about anything. Needles are another huge phobia of mine, and on Xanax I can sit there piercing my lip with a safety pin (there's even a youtube video).

I got Klonopin. I have taken it before, but only once and I was maybe 18 and took a huge dose. I have no practical experience with it, my one and only time I ended up not able to walk, literally.

It's not so much that I can't function while on drugs while on my job, it's that they take the 0 tolerance thing to extremes. You're not even allowed to be under the effects of legal, OTC stuff like antihistamines if they effect your performance. If the safety officer sees me all benzo'd out, he can and will remove me from the plant and then I can be banned from there permanently. That wont' necessarily make me lose my job as there are plenty of other plants, but it doesn't look good. It's my responsibility to show up clear headed and if it's a common occurrence, I will be fired.

@Yomi, right now the plan is to just "man the f up and do it". I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that once I do, I'll get over it. I don't want to white knuckle and cry the entire flight.. Lol
