Well, they are two completely different performances entirely. Ian's is cold and disconnected while Patrick's is passionate and regretful. I guess if we're talking about accuracy to the play, I'd probably have to go with Ian's work just because at that point, Macbeth's obsession becomes ambitious, and his wife is but a fading memory. And yet, Patrick's performance gives it so much more depth.

I guess in a sense we're comparing apples and oranges.

Either or, to me two great performances. Ian's was from 1979, I would love to see him do it now.

Patrick Stewart did 'Hamlet' with David Tenant. Trying to find this now. "NOW!!" I tell you, NOW!!

Shakespear tragedies were so...tragic. If I had to read one again it would be King Lear, but only if I get to read any of the history or comedy based plays first...and every sonnet too.

See, and I can't stand the comedies. I still argue that Midsummer Night's Dream is the worst of his work, and I'll defend that statement to my grave. My personal favorite is Macbeth, but right now it's tied for second place between Hamlet and Titus Andronicus. I guess I'm a weirdo, but the darker the play is, the better it is, in my personal opinion.

Oh yeah, as far as sonnets go, 20 is hands down my favorite one.

It's funny when you search for stuff on ebay and if it's not mainstream or people aren't looking for it, you can pick up things really cheap.

They had the Hamlet for Blu-Ray and no one is bidding on them. Yeah Yeah, I know there's Netflix but still buy movies if it's something I think friends may want to watch or borrow also.
That's a great buy, actually. Last I was aware, that version wasn't on Netflix, and they recently got rid of the Patrick Stewart Macbeth after having it on their instant queue for like 3 years. I'm very disappointed with Netflix right now.

Oh absolutely. I must have read that in middle school. Of course, the best version is when the Simpsons did a remake of it for one of their Treehouse of Horror episodes. That story basically defined the phrase, "Be careful what you wish for".

I don't care for Midsummer Nights Dream either and passed on watching the movie that was put out years ago, maybe 99? My favorite sonnet is the one that is argued as the only sonnet...not done by him because it doesn't follow iambic pentameter (or something). Two Gentlemen of Verona was the play I read multiple times through High School and I don't think I really got it but I read through it once a year. Once I got to read As You Like It, I switched over into discussing that with other people who were fans/understood it. It was awesome to see it, in the Globe in London a few years back. Bucketlist goal, check.
