Okay... found a script that stores the user, target, and skill/item IDs as variables, which I can then use to make the animations work... The only problem is, targets are enemy-only atm, so I'm gonna need to do some tweaking so it works with actors for healing spells, too... and I think the Ruby lessons I was doing earlier already taught me what I need to know for this!

Oh, I learnt that first hand a while back. Lost all my info on characters people wanted because the memory stick I kept it on stopped working. :I
Good thing I had some (slightly dated) backups on my external hard drives. :x
