Only a small difference in the pokemon you catch. Yellow gives you a completely different starter and a different story as well though.

Yeah I know you start with Pikachu in yellow instead of picking charmander/squirtle/bulbasor (I'm sure I've butchered their spellings). Do you suggest any one over the other?

I say red because I love Growlith/Arcanine as well as Scyther. Even though I feel terrible not being able to get Vulpix/Ninetails. :<

Dude. On the launcher/login/patch screen. Go to options and disable on demand patching. Patching before logging in will take longer, but there won't be any patching delays in-game. :x

I made a demon pally guy. :3 Not sure if I like this job.. but I love the game so far. The city feels so lively.

Also, the lack of zoom in button really grinds my gears.

No, it's the files it usually leaves for on-demand patching (patches during load screens when it needs the files).

You on the dragon server? If it is for screenshots you can press B and it lets you zoom in and out while hiding the UI.

hmmm is there a specific emulator I should be using? I'm getting a message saying "The 1M sub-circuit board is not installed" when I try FireRed
VisualBoy Advance is the best GBA emulator. That's normal; it means it can't detect the hardware (because it's not there). It still plays fine. Try saving and closing/reopening the emulator as soon as you start the game, though; you might have to change the save type in the options for it to save properly. I know I had to do it for one game, but I can't remember which one. :x
Or you could just use save states instead, but then you'd have to be super careful not to overwrite them instead of loading them...
