Aye the FFXI community has become very corrosive but that is not the majority. Just have to find your self a small nitch of players you feel good with and do things together.

I think XI has one of the better mmo communities out there. /shrug

It does. I'm not saying it's great, but it's definitely better than most. But people are still people, ya know?!

Also, I realllllly don't see how the game(aby especially) has ruined anything for those who like to roll solo. If anything, they've helped those people out. But SE can't be the ones who take the blame for those who are *** to their fellow adventurers.

I agree, I play this game almost fully on social aspect. But if you spend your play time mainly in shout pugs more often than not going to get a jack-off in em. I do not mind a couple idiots here and there I just ignore em for most part. Just stay here on the forums where it is safe lol.

I leveled old school BST so,Personally, I'm more than glad that that frustration is a thing of the past.

after toau came out..so I guess that won't exactly old school old school but I did it using the old school method as I leveled 1-75 90% solo..on bombs....

like garlaige citadel basement bombs and ifrits cauldron bombs. I dinged 75 at the top of Ule. Range on bombs! it was not an easy life...

I only remember duoing once and being in a party once or twice...usually I just logged in and solo'd for an hour and then logged off and went to class. It took me like 2 years to do.

best part was exp chaining by yourself <3

now I did level rdm in ye old early days..took me also 2 years to level rdm to 75. I was forced to take like a 6mo break there because of having to move..but dude, if you leveled up a single level in a couple of days you were moving fast.

Me too. Well, sorta. Summoner burns ftw! I miss those days... So much Diamond Dust.

Not oldschool really, but I miss soloing imps for merits on BLU. Could go faster than a lot of actual merit parties most of the time, was fun.

You do not, by any means, have to ever step foot into abyssea to level up though. Of course GRINDING is going to get to you after awhile. Otherwise it wouldn't be a grind. But it's up to the player to let aby "ruin" it for them. All of this happened at 75 without the help of abyssea. Things like mana burns and even closer to what aby is, SMN burns. Honestly, not much has changed.

I miss FFXI at 75 cap sometimes as well. I had my fair share of leveling at 75 cap(maat's cap before aby!), lol. But that's not all I did, the game would have died for me a long time ago if it was. Maybe that's why you feel the way you do. /shrug

I solo'd imps on smn as well...namely while waiting for einherjar, I'd run out and kill the imps nearby..garuda was quick to kill them for easy exp.

lol I used to level sync on SMN and help friends level up on imps on their SMNs. I don't miss exping on imps though. So many mire parties... so many. So much amnesia. x.o;

lol Damnit, looking at some of my friends profiles from Midgard. People having 1-2 relics and being "amazing" back then. The feeeeeeeels.
