I didn't like Tifa as a character~

Not any better but not any worse either... The only thing the older games have going for them is nostalgia factor. They aren't any less linear than newer games as an example, they just use a world map to cover it up. You can take the map and connect the dots from one town to the next and plot the whole game. On top of that most if not all of the side quests are located right alongside that that line for 70-80% of the game. The only two ones that are actually not linear are X-2 and XIII-2, there is no set order to do everything, it's entirely possible to miss 50% of the game and things end up differently/you end up with different rewards based one choices made/what quests you did. Hell X-2 had rewards and plotlines only obtainable by failing specific quests.

On the combat front I don't really see them living up to the credit they are given... There is just little strategy involved in regular fights and even boss fights can be pretty dull.

Just watch them on youtube, you're really not missing much by playing it yourself.

I don't really care about linear game play as long as it's fun.

I didn't like the direction X-2 went, nor the direction the other 13 games went. X-2 basically ruined X for me, and I was enjoying 10 up until that point.

It's a toss up between, Kingdom hearts, Ninja gaiden, DMC Reboot (I actually love it) or the Persona/SMT series.

Everything except Dark Souls.

[Last month when Capcom announced that they’ll be re-releasing Resident Evil: Revelations on Wii U, many of you were excited. This port to the Wii U could be an entire new spark for the Resident Evil series if it does ell, however. Speaking to Eurogamer, producer Masachika Kawata said Capcom will be closely monitoring the feedback surrounding the port. This is good news for fans of the series, since the latest installments have bombed critically.
“I think we’ll get a lot of input from the fanbase and the media on what it means for Resident Evil, and what it could mean for the future of the series. We’ll definitely be looking at that as a signpost for where we need to be going next.”
Kawata also mentions that after the release of Revelations, Capcom will be focusing more on the horror and fear aspect of the series. It’s as if Capcom  magically remembered what made the original trilogy fun, instead of trying to emulate Modern Military Shooter with Zombies 2013.

It's worth a play, I admit I'm fickle when it comes to wom- games and SO4 was the only one I played in the series, I played it too death anyways.
