Well seeing as I've bumped it, any idea what kind of character you're going to roll initially assuming we have some constraints.
I tend to always play balls to the wall orcs with huge battle axes and heavy armour, but I'm thinking more of the rogue this time through, with a battle mage sort of setup perhaps.
I had heard in a GameInformer podcast interview with Todd Howard that spears MAY go into the game, but it's incredibly unlikely and would be a last minute feature.
EDIT: OH HAI I TOTALLY RESPONDED TO LAST MONTH'S CONVERSATION.
Probably make myself a boring Imperial or Nord Paladin like usual.
I'd love for them to bring back spears. Why they took them out in Oblivion is beyond me.
But more than that, bring back levitate! It was so awesome in Morrowind, but not having anything of the sort at all in Oblivion sucked :( I wanna fly gdi.

I liked that too lol...
I'm glad fast travel is back though, I liked how big morrowind felt but it could get tedious after a while.
But on topic I was thinking of either a Dark Elf or Orc with all blunt and destruction or a wood elf with good marksmanship, alchemy, and illusion...And I did like conjuration for decoys lol
I'll probably go Wood Elf with Marksman. I always do for some reason, just always felt more interesting. I was excited to see that Marksman in Oblivion had the zoom feature and the Paralyze at 100 skill, hope to find some interesting stuff like that in Skyrim too.
I don't like Fast-Travel, but I understand it as a necessity. I just wish they could implement it a little better. Like open it after you buy a horse or something, just anything to not make it feel like a magic teleport via your medieval blackberry.
ages ago when i played through oblivion, i didn't even know about fast travel until like +80% of the main storyline was already complete
i felt pretty goddamn HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE, but at the same time, it's also pretty goddamn SILLY you can just warp across the entire world in a mere three clicks, or whatever the hell it was, which is why i suppose i never figured there to be such a feature in the game in the first place

Or dragon mounts lol.
That would be pretty cool.
Unlike Oblivion I think you should have to visit a town before being able to fast travel there, that always bugged me.

i did the same thing and I think it was the best experience. After I learned to fast travel it made the game just more objective instead of just on the way to a town and you just happen to go off trail to a vampire dungeon.
I just really REALLY hope they get rid of that 'enemies scale to your lvl' *** that Oblivion has. The best past about Morrowind was you couldn't just waltz into any dungeon or area of the game you want right at the start. If you didn't raise skills and get better gear, lvl up etc you died. Plain and simple.
In Oblivion it's like "well, you suck, so we're just gonna make you fight rats the whole way through"

Yeah same, Though I do like the random level generated loot.
“With Oblivion, we’re dealing with the capital province, and we wanted to get back to the more classic Arena and Daggerfall feel of a fantasy world that felt more refined and welcoming. A place that you instantly understood. But in that, we sacrificed some of what made Morrowind special; the wonder of discovery.”
"The aim this time around is “trying to bring some of that back and walk the line between Morrowind and Oblivion. Where it’s at first familiar looking, but has its own unique culture and spin on it.”
Enchanting was crap in oblivion anyways. The fact that it was a set number and you couldn't have it be random when you equipped an item was a bit of a letdown.
For instance, you might enchant something to always give 10 strength. But in Morrowind, you could enchant it to give 1-20, and that number would change each time you equipped the item. While it wasn't good for stuff you were constantly changing, it was amazing for stuff like clothing that you'll likely never remove. Just remove/equip the item till you got that perfect 20. That added with the fact there were so many clothing items meant you could create a character with some pretty insane stats.

I just thought it was broken that you could mimic enchantments.
Found a stupidly broken ring with 20% chameleon....ummm k let me just clone that onto 4 other pieces....best thief ever!
If Chameleon dropped to 50% or 25% effectiveness when moving or attacking it wouldn't have been so broken. There are more than a few mods that instated this limitation, making it work more like invisibility but still something distinct.

Bethesda Softworks just announced the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series and the sequel to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be called Skyrim. And it'll be out next year.
Bethesda's Todd Howard introduced the game with a brief teaser showing a stone dragon and a dramatic narration that sets up the story of the next big role-playing game in the Elder Scrolls series. That teaser also dates Skyrim for November 11, 2011.
I cannot bloody wait. I've always loved the Elder scrolls series since Daggerfall.
