Massive inflation, wasn't it GREAT?!
I bought Cross-Counters for 35m, also Haubergeon +1 for 45m.
I remember leveling a job from 1-10 and making over 500k from crystals alone...(20k+ on AH)
I miss inflation T_T... Sure things cost a lot more than they do now but when you farmed/synthed back then you actually came back with a mil or two to buy that 20mil item. Now you farm and bring back 100k or so for that ~500k item D: But high numbers for gil makes me happy! Bring back inflation! Asura.Reublucian
I remember during the peak of inflation, I had around 100 mil on me lololol good times why didn't I quit and come back /cry But I have a friend who quit with around 70 mil and came back 5 months ago, lucky *** he was tripping when he saw what the economy was like now lol

I remember when CoP FIRST came out, it was commenplace for ppl to pay for raises (had always been up to that point in time) No mages ever even asked for the gil, by then it was assumed you would pay 2-10k per raise depending on the zone. Also tele-*** charged 3-5k for mea, dem, holla and yhoat/altep were 5-7k with vahzal normally costing close to 10k. The scrolls were outragious (since teles at that point JUST became available) and you'd be lucky to pay under 1 mill a scroll for ANY of them. Also when ToAU came out the chocobo-vender at mea would charge you 3-5k a rental, sometimes more.
Anyone remember when Secret Beach was actually a secret lol. Then again not too many ppl here probably played during beta :P Omg i almost forgot about the most important item affected by deflation! I used to make a killing off these before prices dropped and rmt started selling at a near losss...
12 stack Shihei toolbags: 350-400k Oh how I miss it, I sold a NQ Shura togi on the AH for 20M, sold an HQ off for 150M. Was like the only wood worker making them on Garuda... so sad... now I wish I could just have some of that AH tax back LOL
sold p-charm for 30,000,000 back then
I remember having a corner on the sole sushi market, 150k a stack for NQ and 450-500k a stack for HQ. Was making over 1mil profit a day. Bought SH for 26mil, Royal Cloak for 10mil, Ebow for 10mil...
Currency for dynamis was over 5mil per 100. I paid 10.3 million gil for my Noble's Tunic on March 9, 2006 (I had made nothing but Melon Pie/Melon Pie +1 for it). I just came back to the game last month after a two year break and I died when I saw the price of it now.
I remember farming silk for 120k a stack and silent oils we're 40k a stack. Actually made money by farming bee hive chips and slime oil and turning it into silent oils. Those were the days.
Remember when a good KS30 run would net you like 3-4 mil. A Really good run you could walk out with 5-6 mil? I say bring back inflation! Seraph.Megabyte
Shinsoku - 60m
Pallas' bracelets - 15m Fast forwarding to 2009 and hating your life - priceless Megabyte said: Fast forwarding to 2009 and hating your life - priceless lol Shiva.Artemicion
Why oh why couldn't I have a time machine so I could send a warning to myself 3 years ago to sit on my gil? ; ;
For the following items, I paid:
Noble's Tunic - 14,000,000 Hauby - 19,000,000 Healing Staff - 5,000,000 Ugly Pendant - 1,000,000 Emperor Hairpin - 8,000,000 Leaping Boots - 4,000,000 Scroll of Erase: 900,000 *and I bought two for friends for about the same* these days, those items are worth less than 2,000,000g combined. lol I also remember some items being highly sought after, now, not so much. ... Like.. spectacles, or rabit charms. I remember items like Kclubs were over 100m Pcharms were around 30-40m Ebow was around 50m Some prices were just insane. Fairy.Winterlight

Inflation was great.
Anytime prices increase ppl go out there and work to make money. Deflation on the other hand is bad, bad , BAD! Deflation causes ppl to stop doing things that make them money and put off buying things since tomorrow all this stuff will be cheaper. I think SE has made a total train wreck out of FFXI's economy. When it cost 5k for a choco @ Mea I remember that I could make good money farming lowly sheep and crafting sheep leather to sell at 40k+ a stack. I decked out my whm and rdm this way. Now in my farming I'm lucky if I get something that's worth even 9k to sell. Forget about crafting too. Farming 100% of my ingredients takes so long that I'd miss Dynamis/sea/sky/limbus/nyzul. /cry Ganesha said: I remember leveling a job from 1-10 and making over 500k from crystals alone...(20k+ on AH) I miss inflation T_T... Please do the math before you complain about it... 1-2mil for that 20mil item is 5-10% while 100k for the 500k item is 20% of the cost. I Choose option B Regards, LordCyric Yea those were the days, harvesting red moko grass for 250k a stack. Have a friend who bought a SH for 25 mil and now its like 150k...
See how we all made gil, now we work 10x harder for it, all the things we used to farm all down to nothing. Remember When kirin's Osode was 50M .. ahh the good ole days lol.
I remember getting SH during that time for 6M thinking I got a steal. I think they are like 150k now ; ; 20k for a stack of beehive chips
7k for a stack of earth crystals :) Pic related : FF XI in 2004-2005.
Can't help but think about this when we see how price evolved since 2004~2005. Antipika said: Pic related : FF XI in 2004-2005. Goddamn Zimbabwe has some pretty messed up inflation going on... lol blame it on the GS there, they go camping lions and tigers (not being offensive here, making a joke of Gilsellers)

Well also another reason why prices aren't as high is cause a lot of gil was removed from the game, also by now a lot of ppl have the "must have items"
But I did farm/BCNM 15mil.... 8mil Hauberk before it got higher... 4SH when prices were droping... Flamesx2 1.2mil Snipersx2 1.2mil I guess it's all evens it self out >.> Killed myself for that 15mil and now in 09 still can make out good :) It's all in how you see it....think ppl would want to 15mil nobles now? *** no lol, also the prices are about back to were they where before they jumped. I remember farming Uragnite Shells for 20-30k apiece for a Haubergeon which peaked at 8 million. [If my memory serves me] I think those stupid snails delevelled me once a week.
what u guys are saying doesnt make any sense!
you saying you prefer paying 8mil for a hauby instead of paying 250k o.O When you say you farmed a stack of something and sold it for 240k that means, to buy a haubergon you would need ~33 stacks of that *** (hauby costing 8mil). Nowadays that stack of the same thing would sell for 10k. That means you would have to only sell 25 stacks to buy a hauby. Nowdays you dont have to make as much money you did back then. 1mil today is worth like 10mil of the old days. Yeah, but imagine starting the game, turning in your adventurer's coupon and getting your 50 gil, grinding to 7 in like an hour, and going to buy some new gear on the AH only to find out it was gonna cost you like 60k to get a full set of NQ level 7 gear. If you already had a decent leveled job or craft high enough it was great cause you could make bank...but the new peeps were pretty much *** unless they bought gil, which contributed to inflation, and on and on... If it wouldn't have been for the Easter Egg event happening like 3 weeks after I started, and the money I made bazaaring eggs like a madman, I prolly would have quit the game. Shiva.Artemicion
If this keeps up, the adventurer's coupon might actually be worth something!!
Artemicion said: If this keeps up, the adventurer's coupon might actually be worth something!! lol yeah, you know, I gotta wonder if that 50 gil really accomplished anything back when the game first came out in beta. I mean, 50 freaking gil? C'mon, Square! They really make you work for EVERYTHING in this game lol |
