What if paladins try using k-club paired with a high hitting nonskillchainable weapon like Almace? With the constent flow of tp and the ability to spam weapon skills without interupting skillchains is useful. Not to mention the ability to increase enmity and remove the damage gimp of the tank spot beinf filled with a true tank. thoughts? besides how hard having those weapons would be...

That would just make them a weak DD, may as well just give up the spot to a real DD then.

But then you are just using one slot to turn into a DD but you still have the strength of tank ability to take damage and have shadows since your subbing nin.

What's the point in having a pld tank without a shield lol? They'd just end up being a crappy DD with slightly higher defense that has no way of mitigating damage other than the occasional Ni cast. You might deal more damage to the mob, but the mob is gonna deal a hell of a lot more damage to you, and thus all the extra enmity you gain from dealing more damage is pointless.

DDs keep enmity capped through DoT alone, PLD won't. Having to resort to cure cheats and Flash is just inefficient, your enmity will degrade while the DDs won't.

Why would you want to feed tp to a mob like that - provided you are actually hitting for more than 0.

Yah for PLD to be a viable tank again, SE has to bring back a level-adjustment ratio (for fights that matter) that results in DD doing relatively small hits again (that fine balance of NM level and DEF that was typical back when end game was 75.)

Unfortunately with the current Abyssea end-game and all of the various atma-related buffs that can be placed on DD performance, even a large level-adjustment range won't result in small hits and DD can spike damage quite easily, resulting in maxed hate within moments after the fight begins. Furthermore SE seemed to opt (with VNMs, Abyssea NMs, etc.) currently to have "gimmick abilities" for each NM anyhow, "tricks" that players have to overcome with strategy instead of the typical stand-up tank fight (e.g. players have to disengage mob when it does a certain action or player actions might heal it, mob has a series of AOE status effects that render nearby DD useless for a while, mob has high damage AOE move requiring quick repositioning, etc.) that also do not necessarily always favour having a dedicated tank position.

Maybe when end game settles again in the 90-99 range in 2011 they will be able to fine-tune the balance again, and maybe give PLD a few more tools. Other threads before this one talked about what PLD might need for that, though.

I dunno. Paladin with StoutArm* and Beyond** Atmas spamming Flash Nova*** with a Kraken Club sounds pretty damn potent.

*STR/ATT for capping fSTR and significant boost to pDif, thus no hits for 0 damage.
**MAB+30/LightElementalMAB+30 for a significant boost to Flash Nova's damage.
***Flash Nova is a Light Elemental Weapon Skill that can inflict Flash. Generate the enmity Flash does, along with enmity from the damage it produces.

Vorpal blade and Chant du cygne would be better then.

Chant du Cygne > Torcleaver from reports so far. I'll confirm tomorrow when I get Almace!

Well, you're comparing their ws dmg strictly. KC will ws faster than you will with CDC or VB (assuming you use a shield with each one). Not disagreeing, just saying it's not as cut-and-dry as you make it sound.

Edit: Also ignoring the flash spam from the ws.

Eh, fair enough. I think it would be cool to see nonstop flash novas myself, though. Since the move looks awesome. CDC is cool, too, though. =S Meh.

Razed Ruin + enlight + Khanda +1 (occ 2-3 times sword) + Kraken Club
is actually a lot of dmg. U can do decent enough dmg with Vorpal Blade
and RR. But the multi hits + the high crit rate and enlight dmg is incredibly high dmg from just melee swings. In an abyssea party Assuming no misses ur at a minimum of around 170 dmg per round (no crits no mutli proc) and a maximum of around 1200 dmg (full multi proc all crits) and average damage of 300 + 240 enlight dmg (enlght dmg will go down average of -15 points per attack round until recasted). And i know enlight diminishes on dmg but that still doesnt matter. U can make a fast cast set for it and it alredy has a short recast (30 seconds) and there are plenty of times in combat to recast it to reset dmg back to full. Definately not sumthin u would want to pull for on NMs but thats a small portion of the game. this wold fit fine with the rest of the game and would be plenty of dmg to keep hate for tanking purposes.

i say give "tank jobs" a higher enmity cap instead of the general 1000 ce and ve cap (please correct me if thats not right) any hate over the 1000 though can decay faster so its not broken. just an idea...

Where the hell are you getting those numbers from? You're not going to be doing 1200 in one round. Both Khanda and kclub have horrible D, +enlight diminishes per hit. Two procs on kclubs multi attack on kclub will pretty much kill enlights damage. That and enspells don't generate enmity.
