Based on the manga and anime The Adventure of Dai, this game really dont beat around the bush, and get straight to the point: there is basically no world per se, only multiples cutscenes straight from the anime plus some 3D animation to replay the anime, only stopping to put you and your party to fight the current enemy in the story. The fight is simple but it works imo. There is a lot of hate about this game, because it does seems like there were zero inspiration on it: added a simple fight, simple roguelike and a story already written, and delivered the mixture of it. That said, this is niche, but if its your niche, the im sure it will deliver a good amount of hours playing only for the sake of rewatching the story, that aged well, and i still think its awesome. The game only tells up to half way. Probably leaving the rest for a sequence, but given the critics, i dont think it will happen. Still, the story is complete both in manga and anime, and i surely recomend if you never tried. 11/10! Dodik said: » Crunchy roll is full of wannabe posers that only watch dubs. Wtf do they know. Exactly, why would I want to read? Dub > Sub The Sub vs Dub holy war like most should be dead and buried. Neither is superior to the other. There are pros and cons on both sides, choosing to only watch one and not the other just limits your life.
Problem with dub is that it requires extra investment over the investment on the media itself.
And obviously quality comes with price, so people paying less will get worse dubs in the end. For example, I like to use english dubs because I can also train my listening while consuming the media. But hearing the Dai dub was so painful that I had to change to original voicing. And nowaday I feel less inclined to hear japanese voices. At this point, its already just a random noise for me. I could spend 100 years and still wouldnt figure the very basic conversation in japanese without proper education. Consuming english media helped me learn a lot of the language despite never doing a proper course. Japanese though doesnt seems to go anywhere for me. Offline

So many people in the west now have this sky high opinion of themselves these days, and think they know better than the original creators. This why you get translators taking liberties or writers making a mess of established franchises.
We need these people to quietly go away, and new people who respect the source material to come in. If that's AI translations, so be it. Devils Ecstasy
Short serie about an evil underground society made of Succubi planning to subjulgate mankind. But the story follows Noburo and Meruru, a young boy and flat chested succbus that eventually fall in love. Then some strange shits happens during the plot. Its not funny enough to be comedy, its not horror enough to be horror, it has no romance enough to be romance. Still, it is at least minimally interesting to be read from start to the end 6/10 Pantafernando said: » flat chested succbus Why did you need to specify this? Lmao Bahamut.Senaki said: » Pantafernando said: » flat chested succbus Why did you need to specify this? Lmao Because it actually is a defining factor in the overall plot. The MC has some trauma with big chested women, so he could never have a romantic relationship before. Meruru was bullied by other succubi for being flat chested. When the MC and Meruru meet, he could approach her because she didnt trigger his trauma of big chests, and she fall in love because he actually loved the small chest, so being kind to her. The rest of the story developed from that circunstance. Happiness
From the same author of Aku no Hana and Blood on Trains. This series is way lot less psychological and more fictional than the other mentioned. Its also shorter. Overall, i think its a downgrade from the other two, though more captivating. A fitting comparison, its like Aku no Hana and Blood on Trails were proper meal with sour veggies, and Happiness was a moderately good fast food. The story revolves around vampires and the forever question on immortality, and the adaptation from humam being to vampire. Some side characters are added to introduce a conflict that will last half of the story, without actually giving anything in terms of value. Could be better imo 6/10 Happiness!
Was a cute and fun anime, Fairly generic. But Dog boys last post reminded me of it. Plot revolves around mages attending school, main character is looking for the mage who saved her as a child. 7/10 Fenrir.Niflheim said: » The Sub vs Dub holy war like most should be dead and buried. One advantage of sub is that I can watch porn or ecchi stuff and no one in my house would know unless they see my screen. W Another advantage is that there are certain things in Japanese is lost in translation, and it can't be avoided due to language difference. Listening to Japanese original script allowed me to "get" the original meaning of the script because they are not lost. It's hard for dub to have the same advantage unfortunately. English dub 100% best way to watch it. Saying there is only 1 true way to consume all anime is just wrong, if you make the statement for a specific title then you can make a strong argument. Case by case, Title by title it is just limiting your potential experience if you only watch dubs or only watch subs, some great shows never get a dub, looking at you Welcome to the Ballroom. others can offer you a better experience if you watch them in your native language. I've never have good experience watching anime or game or movie in my native language, unless the original script is done in my native language. I always feel something has been changed whenever it's localized or rewritten in another language, and that alone killed the entertainment for the story for me. I want to have access to the original material as I watch them so I can compare the translation with the original scripts in real time. Considering overwhelming majority of anime/game/movie products don't release with VA in my native language, I think the market kinda decided sub is the way to go. The same goes for Hollywood movies. I always watch Hollywood movies in English to avoid translation lost. Likewise when I play Mihoyo games I always used original Chinese voice because Japanese VA changed so much scripts like how the characters are addressed. I can understand 4 different languages including Japanese though, so VA options are whatever. I just pick whatever option that's most true to the writer's intent. (Edit:one exception is probably cyberpunk edge runner, I watched both Japanese and English version, I believe English is better because the script and theme was written by westerners, Japanese VA toned down the cyberpunk feel a bit. That's really the only time that I feel Japanese VA doesn't feel right.) If you want to watch in dub then go ahead, I never say you CAN'T nor DON'T. But the advantage of the original script isn't going away no matter what you choose lol. I only listed the advantage of original scripts because I haven't seen anyone listing them, that's all. Baccano!
Amazing show placed in early 1930s Chicago, English dub is amazing. Probably a bit of nostalgia on my part but 10/10 Offline
Baccano is great. In the original language.
If you actually prefer dubs you are, and will quote myself here, a "wannabe poser". There are exceptions of course, of which I can only think of one. Afro Samurai is better in the English language. You'll note I didn't say dub, because the original language is English, and the mini series has some stellar English voice acting cast. Samuel L. Jackson voices the title character. Offline

Most comedy anime or more lewd ones i think are better in english since the jokes/etc land better. Least to me. I tend to watch lot of them in jp then rewatch the dub. There are other subtle things in the original language dub like tone, exclamations, use of honorifics, common proverbs etc that you pick up the more you listen to & understand the language. Some get lost when dubbed into another language, or even in subs. A recent example is me watching Korean shows and not liking how the subs omit honorifics, which are very imporant at conveying the nature and closeness of a given relationship (which can change during the course of the show). The girl could be calling an older boy "oppa" and the subs would just omit that and write down the boy's name instead. Not quite the same. I'm not even going to touch on how many of the recent SE games (and perhaps a lof of other games) have their characters significantly changed in terms of how the player is supposed to perceive them based on their original language portrayal. And the reverse also applied to scripts written by non-Japanese but has Japanese VA. Most of my rl friends greatly prefer Japanese VA for Mihoyo games, but Japanese VA often adds non-existent "senpai" for certain character that greatly changed the character relationship from the original script. To the point that everytime when I heard "senpai" in cutscenes I just want to throw my keyboard at the screen w, because the real script never had "senpai" in it. It just doesn't feel right. To me what matters the most is how the script was meant to be imo. Offline

SE's FF is one of the very few exceptions that the scripts are written in Japanese but I ended up with English VA. Idk why, maybe because FF character's 3D facial feature look western, so English VA kinda worked better for me. Tried Japanese VA for Lightning return and I find English VA feels less weird overall. Though I still don't like how certain characters address people differently in the English version ;( For really Japanese style games like Sekiro, it's Japanese VA only for me and I even checked Japanese text just to know the real mini boss names in Japanese. I feel a lot of the mini boss name translation in English doesn't get it right:p. 91 Days is peak Inside Mari
Same author of Trail of Blood, Aku no Hana and Happiness. Maybe this was the weakest of those three? Even thought seems the one when the authors art seems the best. Story about some body swap mystery. The mystery will last the entire series. Most of the time the story made me awkward with the lack of clues and those characters bullshitting like no tomorrow. Very fast read though. 80 ch in 2 days 5/10 |
