Or are the people who post just kinda like blank faces until they do something horrible or get complained about a lot?
Oh dear God, no. I may not be personally acquainted with each of you, but I read enough of your posts to understand, at least on some superficial basis, "who you are."

Janyerik, would you say that you lean towards any political ideology?
Not really. It's not that I'm completely ignorant of the world of politics, it's more like I'm such an idealist that I don't subscribe to any current ideology as of yet. I do sort of lean towards the idea of social anarchism, but I'm quite aware it's not realistically possible.

I love kids, I really do. But I'm all too aware of the dreadful reality that "YOU ARE NOW CHARGED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY OF SHAPING AND FORMING A HUMAN LIFE PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONALLY, MENTALLY, AND SUCH, UNTIL THEY START BACK-TALKING AND ***." To me, parenting is such a daunting but blessed task--an honor I feel I'm still quite unready to accept.

No kids, and so far I have no interest.

I'd like to wait to have kids until I've gotten to the place I can provide a really kick-*** life for them. And I want to have all the stuff I want to do without kids out of the way first, so I can dedicate my entire life to them once they're born. If I'm gunna be a dad, I want to be the best dad a kid can possibly have.

Some people see that as weirdly arrogant or judgmental, but I don't mean it that way at all.

Chalk it up to a pretty crappy childhood from parents who didn't have their careers or various personal issues out of the way before they had me. (Resulting in a fairly colorful past in multiple countries.) I don't want to repeat their mistakes.

Dear Jaerik,
Does being awesome come naturally, or is it hard work?
Srs Question: Coming to Vegas anytime soon? Would be cool to meet (one of) the man behind the site that I've enjoyed over the years. I'll even see if I can hunt down Johnny Walker Blue Label and some sort of classical venue here.

I'm really not made for sports @_@ I'm a complete nerd/geek/dork/what-have-you, and the best I could boast is ONE TIME--just once!--I was playing freeze tag, and I totally dodged a tag by doing a really crazy, uncharacteristic Matrix-esque move.

That's understandable and mainly what scares me about becoming a parent. Though, I'm not sure anyone has ever been fully prepared for it.

Oh and for the next time people wanna feel all special and ask you for a colored bar, tell them you formulated that special gray color just for them. It's totally unique. ;)

It's easy to come off effortlessly awesome when you have unlimited edit capabilities. Honestly, I'm not that cool. =p I'm lucky in that I have personal experiences in areas that coincide with the interests of people on this forum. That's about it.

Vegas was gunna happen in October but all our PTO was bought out and reset to zero with the two company buyouts. =/ So it might have to be some time next year. Although the offer of some Blue label is damn tempting. I'm a sucker for whiskey.

I still follow kendo pretty closely, and am still active in the US national tournament leagues. I also did a lot of rugby over in Japan, but then came back to the US and discovered there was no way I could compete physically with most Americans at that age. They were all ***' huge.

If you mean mainstream sports to watch though, I like football.

Baseball bores the crap out of me. I find it even slower-paced than watching golf, and the rules seem completely arbitrary, like a game of Calvinball that somehow achieved institutionalized status.

What's your opinion on Soccer? Did you watch the World Cup, or no interest in that?

Also, Soccer is popular in Japan isn't it?

Bummer, I always had fun playing it. Although the "excitement" tends to be totally spontaneous. I suppose I just enjoy being able to smack something with a heavy stick and see it fly and run like hell. Outfield work tends to suck though. I will agree with you on the questionable workings of how rules are ignored/abused and often falls under the determination of whether or not the umpire decides to be a jerk or not.

I'm torn on soccer. I find it a little slow, but appreciate the fact that it really is the world's sport. Here in the US we like to invent our own sports, and then call ourselves world champions.

And yeah, soccer's incredibly popular in Japan. I was over there when they had the joint World Cup between Japan and South Korea, and it was insane. Just as insane, or more, than when the Olympics were in Nagano.

My internal ranking for sports is completely different if you're asking me what do I like to watch, versus what I like to play.

For instance, golf is incredibly fun to play. But I'd rather go lie down in traffic than watch a complete tournament for four days.

Similarly, I had a lot of fun in baseball camps and stuff when I was younger, both in Japan and the US. (It's crazy popular over there, too.) But I just can't stand watching it.

Oh God, even in high school, soccer was incredibly tiring and equally a game of patience as it was endurance and precision. I give mad respect to those that play it even semi-professionally, although the fake-out injuries that show up are pretty ridiculous.

OH GOD HE HEADBUTT ME! /falls

Wasn't touchball renamed football in the US?? Or something... what was the official name for football before that?
