Is there a point in PLD anymore?
Not trolling or anything... But really, wouldn't it be better to put a DD in where a PLD normally is in nearly every situation these days?

I'd actually take a BST over a PLD. Completely useless.

a DD with a PDT set can reduce damage majorly, and easily out DD a PLD. I just don't see what use they have any more.

In most situations without a thf, plds couldn't hold ***for years.... lol I have bird merited with GK with an Aegis pld with like +40 enmity in gear and he still couldn't do much to hold hate

Use a mage!
PLD is a safe job, like SMN is compared to BLM in situations like Tiamat etc. Both have their uses... though I agree that PLDs are nowhere near as useful as people make them out to be.

That's pretty much what I'm trying to get across, People waste a spot with a PLD who does average dmg, when they could have a sam, mnk, war etc etc which will deal significantly more damage.

90% of situations a MNK tank will completley outclass a PLD.

I suppose the next question is, What can be done to pld to improve it?
Well if SE improved pld anymore....DD wise.....then DD's would mostly just QQ like " ZOMFG a PLD is pasing on par with me!!! NERF him/her! OMGOMGOMGOM/CRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY"

No tank belongs in a merit party, period. Not sure why you're even bringing this example up. Paladin is pretty much only a safety net for most endgame encounters, nice to have but pretty much there just incase ***hits the fan.

Well SE did say that they want to make it so that stuff in this game can be done with less people (with the level cap increase more and more jobs are starting to branch out on other jobs territory).
That said I wouldn't sell pld short while it may not be necessary to have a pld now its still overall safer to have one in your set up incase ***hits the fan.

I have been advised to get another job to 75 (well, 80 now) if I want to even get into any endgame activity.
Not that that's my actual goal, but... well, I did level Paladin waaaaaaay back in the day to be useful and shiny ._. Now I'm just shiny.

Depends. On higher lvl mobs where level correction kinda kills dmg a pld can outDD alot of DDs. And mobs where you are eating alot of AOEs or attack fast enough keeping shadows up 100% of the time can be hard it offers alot more survivability.
But really blu/nin tank is so much better at keeping/getting hate.

Useful for high level-low man fights and Odin? Or any heavy magic spamming enemy like Bakka, along with Abyssea t3 mobs. Byakko? That's about all I can think off.

It's good to have multiple jobs to fill other roles in general anyways if you want to do endgame stuff. We still use Paladin for most endgame things anyways, just because, but for things like dynamis, einherjar, and other events where it's generally just dds and support you'd be better off leveling something else.

I personally like playing on PLD, though unfortunately it doesn't get much use because I have A LOT of DD jobs, lol.

Anye, you should level DRK!
Shares a lot of the gear that PLD has both for melee and for tanking...such as Perle, Homam, PDT and MDT gear etc.
