Kinda Nightfyre.

Galkas do have the 2nd place in STR, Elvaan being first. DEX has been in debate with the Hume race. It is a little higher but not too much to where there is a noticeable difference.

My thoughts? Don't roll Galka.

lol i agree.

What is galka good for anyway? HP? For what? you're supposed to have someone to cure you. All other races have something useful (imo), elvaan got str, mithra dex, taru mp, hume got um well...

i could be wrong, haven't looked in a while, but i think they have pretty respectable strength without taking the big hit to DEX that elvaan does?

And yet ppl pay millions and millions for that one piece of HQ gear that gives only 1 more str to their ws gear.

i think you could say the same for dex in some cases?

Just saying, with all the 1337 ppl these days nitpicking on every little piece of gear, they seem to forget about the base stats of the chars.

Maybe some ppl is going all out on DEX builds, but I imagine str builds are much more common.

Based off Warrior Strength score

Elvaan: 9 ; 68

Galka: 9 ; 66

Hume: 8 ; 63

Mithra: 8 ; 60

Tarutaru: 7 ; 57

point beeing that this super 1337 taru sam with all HQ awesome superduper gear lolling at the gimp elvaan who still has more str in his ws setup with his gimp gear than the taru has with his super gear.

See my point?

Really? I'm getting the exact same DEX values for both races for every job combination, doesn't seem like much of a debate.

what are you using to find your stats, i'm searching wiki in vain...

i'm using:
http://ffxi-stat-calc.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/ffxistats.cgi

i'm getting way different numbers than zanno for level 75 values, this site says a 75 galka WAR with no subjob has 75 str, not 66, so one of these sources is wrong

and now a view from the "other" side ... those that play for fun. I started this Galka because I wanted the biggest badass Axe swinger in this game. I found out later Elvan had that stat kinda ... but after about 3 years. It's all gravy and only the engineering few keep pointing fingers.

my opinion on it ... Galka are fun! When I first started playing I would literally get swarmed when I showed for a party. "OMG a Galka! Do an emote! HAHAHAH Wow a real live Galka in my party" Yeah that was the Dunes ;P

Now ... it's long since passed as an issue for anyone to base whether or not to invite someone to a party/event based on a race.

To sum it up ...
It really and truly is not a matter of race vs, but just a matter of whether the guy/gal you're partying with is:
a. Drunk/drugged up - can't even hit a correct macro (yes Ive been there)

b. Playing on a windower and found a kickass porn site and has gotten a tad distracted (no comment :)

c. Is just farting around until his GF gets home with dinner and just levels this job out of boredom keep or because an EG shell wants him to.

d. Really really likes this job/game and wants to have as much fun as possible at that current time.

It's all about the player and situation, not the race.

What I'm really curious about is personalities in RL and what races were chosen by said personalities.
Sound weird? I'll summarize.

Are all Manthra hard up dudes that like trying to view a pussy's ***? o.O

Are Tarutaru always a split of either evil midgets or the most FUN people you will run into in ths game. I think both.

Are all Galka quiet freaks in RL, or just lovable big teddy bears?

Are all Elvan players Sooooo Serious?!

Are all Hume' bipolar/chip-on-their-shoulder douche' in RL too? ;D

Yeah I'm bored ... flame me all you want, but that does make me go Hmmmmm.

Yeah after I typed that I remembered all the times I kept going back for Aptant drops and believe it or not ... 2 Hume' always helped me. I just remember moreso the party troubles I had, and hell my GF's parties as well having the most problems with Hume' characters. I'm kinda guessing that's an age thing though.

As a galka I can attest to the fact that the difference between taru and galka is huge. Granted skill and gear matters most but if you have two players with the same skill and gear using different races there's some things you cant get by. Lets use the rdm/blm example at the start of the thread.

The taru has nearly double the mp that the galka does and although the galka has alot more hp than the taru does on rdm that doesnt matter. Galka gets screwed in the fact that on rdm while soloing after casting all buffs etc almost half their mp is gone right off the bat. When it comes to convert they get screwed again because even with a convert/mp macro they have to trade 1000+ hp for about 700 mp at best and then it takes more mp curing back to max hp afterwards.

The end result is even though a galka mage can be played very well and skilled it takes far more work to do what a taru can do easily and with the same work put into that taru the taru can do things far above a galka. Look at avesta I doubt he could do the things that he did with a galka rdm. A galka rdm cannot solo up in arms like a taru or even a hume can, they dont have the mp to do it in time.

I'm glad I chose a galka because I like my utility on jobs not related to mp. But when I'm on sam and see a taru sam next to me hitting just as hard as I am kinda makes you think with such a bad trade off we get with mage jobs taru should get with melee jobs.

Like ppl have said any race can "do the job" but a Galka is going to have to work so much harder to get that job done..if the job is mage, DD not so much.

I can't really speak for Galka since I am not one..but on my Elvaan Blm/Rdm my base INT is 66(on blm/rdm my base str is 67) where a Taru is what 77?(I can't remember). So not only do I have to come up with 11 int just to be even I still am down the 300 or so MP..it's just how the balance of the game works...I more than make up for the difference when I get on War, Sam, Drg and Drk and Even Whm.

A Galka Blm can probably out Nuke a Taru blm but will have to geared to the wall to do it..but reversed a Taru melee can prolly out damage a Galka DD but will have to be geared very well to do it.

Taru Blm Vs. Galka Blm with same gear the taru will win 100% of the time.

Galka DD Vs. Taru DD with the same gear the Galka will win 100% of time. Well I can't say 100% because of merits and such but for this story it works.

It balances it self out nicely..if you picked Galka and wanted to lvl a mage job then I'm sorry lol, you got screwed.

Won't deny the mp handicap, but its not because we lack the mp pool, we can get the mp easy (I and another LS galka can get 1000+mp in our mp set ups), the issue is having both that mp + sufficient magic accuracy/potency gear. In this sense galkas still make awesome WHMs and SMNs.

So in buffing and curing areas we're not lacking much at all. My fellow LS galka RDM is one of the best there is, no question. After initial mp pool is depleted, the most important matter is mp refresh rate, which is not dependent on race.

But what is this about only talking galka's weak points? Importance of HP is a bit underrated, after all, its what KEEPS YOU ALIVE lol. As a MNK, NIN, SAM and RDM tank, there has been countless times where I've survived 1500+ damage attacks, or double or triple critical hits from HNMs etc. And of course as a tank, if you die, your whole party dies.
