case in point

if you dont want to watch. Mewtwo (lowest tier char) holds his own vs fox (#1 char)

Tiers only matter in tournaments. Sure someone could be boss with the lowest tier, but if someone is anything decent with Meta Knight, anyone else doesn't stand a chance. Sorry, but facts are facts. He's just too fast and strong. It all comes down to frames.

i would argue the exact opposite. Tiers only matter in casual play. Simply because expert level lower tier players know the ins and outs of how to beat the Fox's Dr Mario's and MK. I play marth and i only get shined about 20% of the time.

but i do love MK, even before he was found to be top tier.

You can try to argue all you want, but it all comes down to frames. Meta Knight has too many strong moves that are faster than ANY OTHER MOVE any other character has. You cannot beat it. It is inevitable. Casual doesn't matter since...well, it's casual. Who cares how good you do. Just having fun doesn't determine how good someone is.

....so how do people that play Dedede and lucas win tournys?

I will accept certain characters are better than others, but inevitable? impossible? not at all

Tiers are there for a reason. Yes, a Ganondorf can beat a Metaknight, but take the best ganon ever and the best metaknight ever, and Meta is going to wipe the floor w/ him.

It's like gear in ffxi.

Someone w/o byakko's can ourparse someone w/ Byakko's. Doesn't make those
Aurore brais better, it just means the other person was a better player.

Tiers are this way. Each char has a max potential. Metaknight has the highest potential. Metaknight doesn't guarantee victory. Just because the potential is there doesn't mean it's being used. It is up to the player for that. Which is why you can see skilled ganons take out mediocre metaknights with ease.

I'd watch that fight. I just honestly think tiers become irrelevant to expert players. Its no longer about the frame rate or cheese moves, but how you play digital chess with the other player. When you play against MK, you know whats coming, you know what he is going to do and how much faster he is. You know how to get around it or block it. There is no OP char that no one else can deal with, there are some characters that MUCH stronger than the rest, but they can be contained.

Ganon just plain can't move fast enough to block or dodge (or especially counter) a well executed attack from metaknight. Even if the guy playing ganon sees it coming, it's still going to be incredibly hard for him to actually execute the dodge/block/counter.

If ganon wins, it's because the person playing ganon is a better player. If they are both equally skilled, Metaknight will win the majority of the matches.

Then whats the point for any expert level people for playing anything other than MK and fox?

I ask myself this all the time. Perhaps they want to prove something. But as long as that one pro whips out Meta Knight...it's over dude.

Can also think of Tiers as difficulty level.

Let's say you take that same Metaknight and put him vs fox. You take the ganon and put him against fox.

Fox uses move #1

Metaknight can dodge, block, or counter this move

Ganon can dodge or block this move.

Metaknight's moves have high priority and can often interrupt other attacks, where as Ganon doesn't have this.

It is now more difficult for a skilled Ganon to defeat fox than a skilled metaknight. Because Meta has more options in almost every situation.

Some people like the challenge. If they beat MKs and Snakes w/ low tier chars, shows their dominance as a player and how badass they are.

I enjoy challenge, so I use Peach. No one expects a good Peach, then I appear. I have my campus cringe when someone selects Peach now, lol. Of course, only one other guy and I use Peach.

I suck, im just better than most of my friends, other than my tourny level friend who mains fox. But he shines too much...

My old roommate was a beast with Samus in Melee, i didnt realize she got knocked down since Brawl. I *** hated dealing with missle barage and hyper beam on a flat level (we played FD for most "serious" matchups)

I did this ALL THE *** TIME in Melee since there was no limit. Now that there's a limit to 3 of one item on the field at once...it's not fun =/
