If you skilled up off scales and have a ton left over, this is a good way to use them up.
If not, and you're thinking of skilling up off this based off the cost/profits listed on ffxi be forewarned the cost of scales can be very misleading because availability is rather sporadic. This is because its not profitable to make scales; the ingot sells for more. So you'll probably need to make your own scales.
Re-iterating my previous warning: Actual cost of the scales doesn't line up with the figures here on ffxiah, because you wind up making your own scales. You have to get ingots, then make sheets because those aren't in stock either, then turn those into scales. If you make your own ingredients every step of way then you can break even on these for about 11k. If you buy iron ingots, you'll likely hemorrhage money.
If you manage to snag a stack of scale when they are in stock, you'll profit and whoever sold scales is taking a huge loss (at present pricing anyway in jan 2009).
This is to Murdock its not about what it looks like. It's about the attributes. If your playing this game to be stylish, than all I have to say is /sigh.
