I would say that this shield is a definite upgrade from the previous shield for PLD, however it is not a viable option for long. At 52, you have the option of getting a Temple Knight Army Shield +1, which gives you better DEF, and gives you a very nice VIT+3 if in a region of your own country's ^.^, not to mention it looks alot nicer with IM armor than the red one.
