What Screen Resolution Do You Use On Your PC?

Since I'm redesign the site, and the site been ffxi related I decided this would be the best place to get the answer from a ffxi fan point of view.

What Screen Resolution do you use on your PC?

The reason why I'm asking, is because I'm planning on redesigning my website.

And instead of having a flexible width (Which gives me a headache when dealing with pixel and % based table width).

I am looking to use a fix width so I have better control over the layout and allowing it to look the same no matter what width is used above the target.

The most common resolution people use is "1024x768". If designing a static sized site, I would never do anything more than 1152x864, believe it or not, 1280 is still considered pretty high resolution for some.

Safest bet for a design is 1024x768..... But if you don't care about most people, then I personally use 1920x1080. :D

None of the above, last I saw 1280x1024 was incredibly common, but I'm guessing that was before true widescreen resolutions really started to pick up.

If I had to guess, I would think the average would fall somewhere into a mid-range 8:5/16:10 resolution.

My laptop is 1366 x 768. :S

I use 1680x1050 primarily, but I have a second screen at 1280x1024 and 2x 1280x1024 at work. The baseline native resolution for 4:3 monitors has been 1280x1024 for quite some time.

I would suggest basing your ultimate decision on the type of visitor you're anticipating. Younger, tech-savvy people such as us will have at least 1280px; older, less tech-savvy people are more likely have older gear that's still 1024px.

If you're going fixed-width my opinion is to use a ~1000px width for your layout. It's small enough to sit in even a 1024px screen, and still wide enough to look decent on a big monitor like I have. If you really want to go for broke you can make more than one stylesheet, default to 1000px and use JavaScript to detect the window size and swap to an alternate stylesheet.

However... if I catch you using tables for layout I am going to have to hunt you down and "encourage" you to learn divs and CSS positioning. *sideways glance at FFXIAH devs*

There are websites that track the general internet's resolution breakdowns. (It's easily detectable.) They're probably more accurate than sampling just our user base, which likely tracks younger and thus higher resolution.

Who still uses 1024x768? That resolution is so 00's.

1360x768. A wierd resolution I know, I just use my HDTV for monitor/games/bluray and I wasn't about to fork out 2x as much for the full 1900x1200 (Though that was years ago, the gap isn't nearly that bad anymore).

I've been waiting for OLED's to come down in price before upgrading from my LCD. Definitely can't invest in a plasma, would have random PC's and Names burned into it from Dragon Aery ^^.

Got my pc set up with dual Dell SP2309W monitors at 2048 x 1152.

I had my dekstop on 1024/768 until yesterday.

Old gamers are used to play games in 800/600 anyway, even in 2010.

A lot of people have separate rigs for gaming and things like browsing, as well. Especially if the game is not multi-task friendly. Often the secondary rig, not needing to ever play games, is a lower hardware spec or even something else entirely, like a laptop or tablet.

So for purposes of website design, you can't assume folks are browsing your site with the same resolution they game at. We still have a lot of hits to this site at 800x600, and I really doubt anyone is playing FF11 on that.

1024x768, even though I can do up to 1440x900..

I keep my TV as a duplicated desktop for when I watch TV shows/Movies on my computer. When the screen resolution changes, FFXI crashes and to get back on I have to call a friend to get a code for that stupid token BS, which I'm pretty tired of doing.

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to add, my TV only supports up to 1024/768, so that's why I leave even my monitor set to that.

I play 1440x900 because its the smaller of my 2 monitors. Occasionally, I'll play 1920x1080 but I prefer the bigger monitor for browsing, messenger, ect.

1920x1200, FFXi machine GTS 250 1Gig i7 OC 3.958, The game runs near perfect most of the time. I have a laptop for just the internet.

My PC is at 1680x1050, but my laptop is only at 1024x768. I do about equal browsing on both machines.

It's not a complaint Jaerik, but does this website not like 1024x768, or is my laptop being HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE? The page displays wider than my screen size, and I also have to scroll right to get all posts onto my screen. I only have this problem when I'm logged in. Also, should I have posted this in Bugs?

Because you know, Messenger needs a big monitor.

I'm curious what the User-Agent and OS breakdown within the 800x600 hits look like.

Screen resolution: 1920x1200, but I played FFXI as 1600x900 so I had extra room for vent, notepad, apradar and other such goodies along the sides.

1920x1200 on desktop, 1024x768 (<_<) on laptop.

As for flexible width, imo they're more hassle than they're worth. Anyone using less than 1024 in this day and age is probably using a zimmerframe when they walk.

When you have messenger, itunes, firefox, ect up all at the same time and prefer them not to overlap one another so you can see them at the same time, yes, it does.
