The entire year you missed worth of updates is about 5 minutes, they ain't added ***.

The free-to-play takes place over 10 days. SquareEnix created a new installer to make the process easier with less need for updating from it. This won't be like installing from disks and then getting over a decade's worth of updates manually.

I think if you download the new installer and then run it all, you can perform a file check to get it up and running without an active Content ID, but am not 100% sure on that. Good luck.

If you internet is so dumpy that you can't get the complete update overnight, you may want to think of looking for a job to pay for things like games that aren't free-to-play and internet that isn't hooked up to a dial-up modem from 1996.
