This interaction was extremely bittersweet and forever memorable.
My friend quit the game, but split her gil 3 ways and gave me 10 million gil right around the level 80 cap.
Learned to always keep up with friends, and to try and be their friend outside of game if they don't mind. Also learned that I cannot be trusted with large sums of gil, because I wasted quite a lot of it on Red Curry chasing Epeen numbers. Woulda traded it back if she kept playing.
If I could change things, I woulda held onto more of the gil, and spent more of it on longer lasting items than food. I squandered a big gift, really.

One of the most awkward interaction i had in game was some lady that had some problem with her hands.
She wasnt a bad person, but that just made me feel even worse because i really didnt want to play with her.
She waa really bad at this game, probably because of her hands, but no role worked with her.
But only that it would be ok. But the thing was that she constantly voiced her pain. Her disease probably didnt had a cure, but every time she appeared in the shell (and she was always playing) it was always about her hands, her poverty, the side effect of her problems in the rest of her body, etc.
It would be better if she was a bad person on top of that, but she wasnt. She was just annoying, and that always made me feel bad for not trying harder to help her.

Best interaction was probably when i had my own Delve shell on Bahamut.
Every day shouting for people, then after recruiting it, like some standard RPG.
By doing that, i managed to build a somehow big shell, and with nice environment. We never had drama and we always had event.
Only downside was that we never got any win.
Looking back, maybe never winning was a factor that keep the group united. Sure, by the end, fewer and fewer people wanted to join the delve run. But that also meant we always had a goal to achieve.
Maybe if we had won i would still be in the shell today. Maybe we could become even bigger. Destiny decided my road was somewhere else.
I still remember when i announced in shell that after our 1788687676546th loss I would shatter the shell and leave Bahamut.
Maybe i didnt have to shatter the shell, but i definitively had to leave the server.

Well, I didn't have the experience everyone else with olden FFXI, never got groups, no endgame, etc. Well when SOA and skirmish came out I joined a shout and met who turned out to be one of the greatest players I have ever seen. We kept joining shouts from the same guy, and the guy that shouted decided to create a Skirmish LS for the ppl that always joined him.
We made SO MUCH MONEY. This made him wanna turn the LS to a proper EGLS. The friend I mentioned eventually took the lead and we eventually were one of the top 3 LS on the server. We did aeonics etcetc, and I was finally in the big leagues, and ended up meeting ppl I consider my best friends even today.
All from answering a shout.

Countless good interactions with people from various old LS, good times on voice just playing vidya together.
Then along comes Odyssey first and then Sortie. Can't fit everyone neatly into new 6man groups. No one's fault, some are more motivated to do the content than others.
I learned I do value the group dynamic more than I realized as a person with social phobias and other issues.
Wouldn't have done anything different, though. Got some good memories out of it. Everything changes eventually, is the natural order.

Positive experience.
I was a BST72 in Den of Rancor around 2005 on Ragnarok. I spent maybe 6 months leveling there in between school and work. I was Rank 9, Sandoria for over a year at this point. I receive a tell in full translator telling me {Rank} 10, {Do you need it}?
...so I rush over to Qubia Arena and there is maybe 15-20 people there. There's a party of 5 people, rotating a 6th person in to get them the clear. I thought this was an awesome gesture to help people across the server like this.
Lesson learned: I try to pay it forward and do good deeds like this around FFXI as time allows.

Bad experience.
75 era, 2006~2007ish. I spent all summer being a jerk and hogging the TV to camp Fafhogg ToD. Spent all waking hours farming Diorite and getting ToDs or kills on NMs in Sky. Even got some Deeds/Vices etc. from Ix'aerns. Shored up my LS bank points, the works. Was next in line for Byakko's Haidate. I also never miss any events.
During a Nidhogg window I get the claim. I die and get ejected from alliance, raised, and sit on the sidelines. The LS kills it, and two E Body abjurations drop. I get a set of tells from an officer asking me if I have Byakko's Haidate / 20% gear haste on Warrior. I have to say no, but mention that they know that I'm next in line for Byakko's Haidate, and that I'm the token WAR and this Nidhogg was claimed by me on my ToD. They claim a SAM in alliance claimed it, tell me they can't give me something like Ebody in good conscience since my other gear isn't good enough, and proceed to give each E body to a Monk main and a DRK main. The DRK had no Homam, as they'd gained Sea Access at roughly the same time as me, and we actually beat 8-3/8-4 together. The MNK was kitted out to the gills, and did have a fully merited WAR that he never used. The DRK turned around after getting Ebody and forced people from LS to farm Byakko outside of event hours and got haidate ahead of me for WAR that they didn't have merited. They also got Apocalypse funded through Stage 4 and half of Stage 5 by the LS bank. They then quit the LS to join their GF's LS where they were promised even more drops/money/the rest of their scythe funded. They weren't even a good player. The LS disintegrated after this.
I learned then that even though it's a, "PVE oriented game" where we are forced to work together, people are scummy beyond belief even your own teammates, and they don't care how much work you're putting in, if you're a nobody to them. Also learned there's always those idjits that get everything handed to them on a silver platter just because they know a guy or have one good thing that gets them a seat at the table or whatever. But I guess I also learned that it doesn't matter how hard you work if you don't have a guaranteed return on your investment, because I never did get my Haidates with that LS.
I guess it also made me comfortable with accepting anything free or good that anyone was willing to give me. Cause if a player like that can just get given ***for basically no reason, then anyone can.
Knowing what I know now, I could probably alter the situation completely by making my own LS or groups back then. Or I could, idk, give them a heads up that the guy was in it for himself. Just a warning like, "Oh I've seen him farming sky with another LS." Of course, knowing what I know now, perhaps if I went back far enough and leveled Red Mage or something, I could have prevented the events that caused my LS to merge with the LS that he was in, and prevent me ever having to interact with the guy directly at all. Probably a reach, but this is an experience that was so bad for me, that I wish it'd never happened.

Good experience. PS2 era. Getting escorted through the tunnel and across the desert to get to Rabao the very first time - felt dangerous and exciting.
Bad experience. LS leader took a break from a Limbus run to beat his wife, didn't realize his mic was still hot. He was a talented player that everyone knew was an ***. Didn't realize how much of a scumbag he was, though.
Bonus experience. Sky LS beat it's first Kirin and leaders had those eligible /random for the Osode. Someone got a 997 and was traded the Osode, but leaders had forgotten I was eligible and of course I rolled a 998. Awkward.

Good/bad: 2005 and I am a n00b still not 75. A SMN dreaming of Fenrir. Finally get a group to carry my level 55~60 SMN ***. Key member falls asleep. I don't blame them. My hopes were so high then and they shattered. I learned to never get my hopes that high from that event. I'm still optimistic but I wait till things actually manifest now.
Good: Random JP player buying me some spells when I was leveling up because I didn't have all my BLM spells.
Bad: Accidentally buying a single piece for 100 piece price. *** those people.

Bad x2, both in DI.
The first was years ago. Some guy was weaponskilling and one shotting all the fodder mobs while I was farming beads. I politely asked him to stop and explained why, which he took offense to and for the next hour+ he followed me to every DI I did and killed every mob I targeted. I eventually just sat out the fodder stage and he got bored, but he seemed to thoroughly enjoy just killing every mob I was trying to get beads on. Like he'd target the mob I'm targeting, one shot it, then stand there staring at me. If I targeted a different one, he'd do the same thing.
The other was similar, some guy sent me a tell complaining about everyone else WSing against the fodder mobs (he had asked them to stop in /say and most folks basically told him to *** off). I related to him that yea, it's a pain and folks don't listen or think about it - it was an issue for me too. We chatted and it was nice then moved on. About 3 hours later he starts sending me tells about how I'm a huge piece of ***, part of the problem with the people on Asura, etc because I was WSing on mobs in DI. I explained he had the wrong person, that I didn't, then he kept going no about what a sack of ***I was. Eventually it stopped, the 2-3 hours later he starts up again. This went on for the whole day until I finally just told him I wasn't doing it but I was blacklisting him because he was going out of his way to just be an *** and send me tells about stuff I didn't do. The crazy thing is he'd go on for a few minutes, stop, then several hours later start up again.
I have a lot of others related to other content but those folks still play and I don't feel like stirring the pot

If you need beads farm them more efficiently by making a shout group, split the cost on pops and spam Neak/Maju over and over. Can farm 50k beads in 2hrs. Hope this helps you in your endeavors of not having to be around people like that.

Oh jeez there’s still one player I remember pre ToAU (I forget his name though) who always helped me out, he was like a lvl 70 pld who helped me unlock all the advanced jobs during a time where I played on PS2 and had no access to forums or guides. I remember thinking wow how cool a level 70 paladin is protecting me everywhere I go and as like a 14 year old being in awe of certain players. The community was just so different then and it’s one of those things you had to be there to experience.
Worst encounter I had was someone on Hades or Cerberus after the merge during abyssea when it was new content. I outclaimed this guy on Gukumatz and this guy was so mad over it he followed me obsessively for the like the next month or two always screaming misogynistic slurs at me in /say no matter what some I went to until he eventually got banned. I usually always ignored him and had him blacklisted after he kept sending me /tells but was the first time I ever encountered a player like that.

Good experience
Got grounded in late 2005 for playing too much. When I got back from being grounded my social LS broke cause half of it wanted to try and apply to endgame LSes. Since I was close to 75 relatively, and had expressed my desire to some day fight Bahamut (when I was in the mid level 40s and camping Deadly Dodo), I was on the ringleader of the pro-endgame side of things's radar.
So when I got back, I was quickly picked up into his small LS that was a stopgap LS til we got accepted into a proper endgame LS. He told me everything I needed to know, and helped me break my WSNM latents in a mere couple of hours for Steel Cyclone. A bunch of other people from the former social LS were in it, some of my favorite people ever back then. It took us a few months to get into an endgame LS, and during that time we did a bunch of stuff just to say we were more experienced in FFXI. We all got 75 or multiple 75s. ToAU came out. We did all of the Prime Avatar fights together. We talked a lot of mad ***about each other. We leveled subjobs together. It was a great time.
What I learned: Expressing your desires, even if they seem silly, sometimes makes people in the game want to include you in their reindeer games. If I'd never said I was hungry, then I woulda been alone when I got back from the grounding.
