Forum Filter

This post is directed at the Admins/Mods, as well as the FFXIAH user base. Mainly, it's in reply to Jaerik, and a post he made about suggestions about "situations". That thread has been plopped firmly in the Flame Core, so I'm posting it here as well.

I don't post often on these forums, but I'm constantly lurking. I even have this page flagged on my phone so I can read on the go... I catch enough to know who the people are that I would like to avoid.

My question to you is; Is there a way to implement a "show/hide" option on forum posts for posters? That way, if I don't want to view a specific persons posts, I can simply select "hide all posts from this user", and poof! it's as if they no longer exist to me.

Ignoring certain posters, especially members who seem to thrive on redirecting/derailing a thread and drawing attention to themselves, would certainly go a long way towards keeping things civil and on topic. If you really had a slow day, you could always select "show" and read the post.

If we stop replying to the posters that cause these types of incidents, they will just fade away. They can always duke it out, I just won't be assaulted with their infantile antics.

Yes, but everyone admits that even glancing over a post, then seeing a heated reply, your eyes will drift up to read that one you skipped.

A show/hide option would make me perform an extra step. That's against my internet code of lazyness. I'll just skip it and move on.

Chances are someone is going to quote and reply to the user in question and you'll end up reading it either way.

Dear Admins,
While you're at it, can you also apply the following Filters:

A *** Filter: too many people have NO idea what they are posting about. Would be nice to not have /facepalm so often.

An E-Peen Filter: there is only soooo many times I can see a post and/or SS of someone's Augment / Gear / Magic Damage / Weapon Skill Damage

a Religious Filter: I'm tired of hearing about God

Non-FFXI Picture Related filter: Sucks when you see all the "New ScreenShots" and half of them aren't even FFXI related in the slightest.

Rate-Down Filters: To filter out all the ***-monkeys who do NOTHING but rate down everything they see for the sake of taking out their frustration that day and pushing a little "-" to make themselves feel better.

An Idiot Filter: Oh wait...that would filter MYSELF out... dammit.

ALSO...
Would be peachy-keen if you could make a setting where LOLCats Threads, Funny Picture Threads, and Jokes get bumped to the top for extended periods of times.

That's where all the GOOD posts are anyway!!!

P.S. Seriously though... It'd be funny to have that function to filter out the posters you don't want to see... because SOMEWHERE down the line... they will make an AWESOME relevant and extremely helpful post...
and You wont be able to see it. simply because you can't just scroll past them like a regular person... you need to censor them in your own world.

Wow. So no one here uses the /blist function in game? Thanks for all the asinine criticism versus helping refinements and suggestions though. That goes a long way in helping make sure something gets done.

Also, if a person you've been ignoring makes a super awesome post, would you really care? Would your life be better after having read a single post among hundreds that is worthwhile?

I may have been tired, just getting home from work when I started this topic, but it can be a springboard for ideas that may actually work, nonetheless.

Edit: also, after reading Vegettos post, and others, I realize that other people would simply quote and retaliate anyways. Still hoping for anyone to suggest a valid solution.

Who uses the blist? If they're talking crap about you in /shout, if you can't see it, then you can't call GM and get them banned.

As for reading the super awesome post, if it's that good, someone is going to quote it, and you're doing to end up reading it anyways.

Arguing gets plain boring after time. It's not about OMG he hurt my feelings /gm. You can argue all day, and they can win or you can win. You either get at them or you don't get at them, but when you get them banned, you know you get at them. For example, someone called me the nword during ballista. Instead of saying well fk you too you're an ***, I just hit the /gm and 3 days later he came back from his temp ban, i kicked his *** some more in ballista and he didn't have ***to say after that.

Much more satisfying than simply winning an argument.

While I completely feel that the use of a racial slur is unacceptable, I still feel that getting someone banned is just a waste of time. He was only temp banned so I mean, did you really win anything at all? ***I would've just waited for him to get in a party and then start killing EVERYTHING they are exping off of, then tell the party leader, "Hey I'm just farming here, but if you'd like me to leave then just boot so and so." You'd be amazed how fast ppl will kick some *** to have their precious little camp.

P.S.: Who the hell does Ballista? that ***does not exist on Carbuncle lol

If you don't like what you're reading, there's a lot of other threads you can browse through. Putting up with people you disagree with or don't like is part of life.

The bottom line is nobody forces you to read these forums. You and only you are responsible for reading.

People only get 2 chances when they're jailed, therefore if that guy that was jailed does anything again, he's going to get banned.

Thats why I want to keep my 70lolDRG ^^

And no, I didnt get banned 9 times douche, I went to jail 9+ times, i've only been banned once for 3 days. And no, I don't bribe them to keep playing. Bribing consists of me giving them something in return for another. I simply just talk w/ a few AVPs, VPs, and Execs. Depends on the situation. Not like it matters, you *** wouldn't believe me anyways :D

I'm not really interested in why tbh. Most ppl don't believe anything on the interwebs until they see it for themselves iRL. Like all the gay *** avatar pics most ppl have, tells me that they are unattractive, but thats just one man's opinion.
