They can't possibly be doing less than they already are for XI so XVI's success or failure is meaningless in that regard. They already put in less than the minimum required to keep it going.

It could be bad for XIV but who cares.

The ending of XIV (Endwalker) was awful. Literally disgraceful and that's because the core team walked away to do 16. It has already suffered. Imagine The Last Jedi, but Final Fantasy instead.

Hey now, hey now....

Have a little more respect for The Last Jedi...

You must appreciate the fact that 40 years of excitement, love, and lore was torpedoed in just 152 minutes. If that had been your actual goal I guarantee you couldn't have pulled that off as exquisitely as Disney did.

No..The Last Jedi stands alone.

Oh they absolutely could be doing much less than what they are already doing.

Not doing new missions, gear and "battle content" for a game in maintenance mode since whenever, for one.

History just repeats itself, but surely those people will defend that expansion to their death. I'll never forget those days, most people KNEW that SE was deliberately dragging their feet on XI to work solely on XIV. We had times where we went 6~8 months without a single update. Only to release that horrid garbage and have to reboot it lol, XI just never got a break. Now its just bullied by its own community and a company that doesn't care.

Speaking of AFK and MLs: 1-20 ML cake, 20-30 not to bad, 30-40 eyes start bleeding, 40-45 my soul has died inside, 45-50 might as well unsub. I get why the shout prices past 30 are so high, hello RMT, take my gil please. Rant over.

fun food for thought, if you look at the ML Listing from EP to EP, you'll find that ML45 is the HALF WAY POINT...

Full-Botting at 120k EP per hour will take something like 10-12 full days to go from 0-50 lol.

Use that information as you see fit (:

Luckily, ML-30 isn't terrible and gets most of the utility you need for most jobs but yeah, getting to ML50 manually is something that dwarfs even OG 0-75 grinds (I Think? Idk, didn't math that one)

I'll throw in my two cents.

Too many people quit, too many people who have no idea how to FFXI are now playing on R25-R30 Nyame jobs and making pugs miserable.

It's a sad day when RMT are more "reliable" (they're not pls don't use them), to the player base, than sleepy eyed joe who bought a full R25-30 account and doesn't know what Hasso or 4 step is, or can't do content that came out since ROE, Dyna D, Sheol C, etc.

TLDR - the player base is gone because there's too many resold accounts who struggle just to get the proper KI for basic content in a PUG, let alone play their job.

RMT still bad, but so are other players.

ML curve is far more steep then even the pre-nerf exp curve of the old days. Imagine if everything past level 60 cons at easy prey and you spent all those levels getting ~20 exp a kill. ML would still be worse.

A lot of the time you'd think you were joining a pug that was basically one person recruiting people to carry their alts through content for profit. People don't really enjoy playing the game, they're just here because they think they need the things.

I love FFXI, it's a living memory of my childhood and a better part of it than IRL in my experience back then.

However, it does feel like a 2nd job full of leeches. When a DD Brd can out dps a samurai, you feel like you're playing with real human beings who play dumber than those cheating using easy farm.

I agree.

If you don't have a clique, you're a solo player in this MMO, even if you have a bunch of linkshells.

People willing to either help or play with you on a competent level are 90% are the experience.

expectations are high in shout groups, but none want to help people get to that level. they assume you're on the same level using the same gearswaps and addons etc. so the gap grows ever wider.

if ffxi forced grouping like duty finder in ffxiv does, people would put up with and help others clear more because they were required to. instead you get your 6man group and beat the game or suffer if you don't have friends.

FFXI Duty Finder:

Ody C:
Auto-Finds: 2x Support, 1x Healer, 1x Tank, 2x DD

What you want:
Brd, Cor, Sch, Pld, War, Sam.

What you get:
Geo, Smn, 117 Whm, Non-epeo / non-Hippomenes Socks Run, Pup, Mnk.

True, but considering how awfull trust supports and solo segments are you'd still end up with slightly more segments on average even if you get a imposter support SMN and single damage type DDs like MNK or DNC on a regular basis.

Plus working statics wouldn't lose anything while soloers would occasionally stumble upon the same faces, notice who's pulling their weight without beeing exhausting, maybe socialise and queue duty finder together next time till it eventually grows into some sort of static with benefits and people wouldn't need their alts anymore and... yeah, I totally see why we wouldn't want that to happen.

I like this idea of auto grouping.

Give a lot of randomness to the content.

Maybe you can even find the love of your life in an auto grouping function?

Auto grouping only works well in games where job roles are mostly homogeneous. Not all supports have access to the same buffs and debuffs so you can't apply them to groups generically. The downfall of such diversity across supports almost forces specific group compositions.

obviously duty finder wouldn't work well in xi, but i do appreciate how it makes people help strangers and gives them a reward at the same time. pretty good design.

Technically it can work if pt lead can check what "job" to look for in each slots, instead of using "job roles". Then whoever wants to join can change job to join the pt.

It's definitely a good idea to give players extra rewards if they pt with strangers. Since pt performance is often lower with strangers, higher with clique, people will choose to play with their close friends if they can. Extra reward with strangers may solve this problem.

Edit: Actually, there is another potential problem with duty finder in FFXI: the lack of gear score. There are no convenient way to filter out undergeared people from joining harder content because of how FFXI gear system works. There are no way to track a character's strength unless you check every gear set for that specific content.

So it is going to be a lot of work to solve this problem.

finding groups was always one of FFXIs biggest struggles, we have a lot of addons for lesser problems, why not for this?

That's not a party finder, that's a player warning addon and considering the amounts of mules and alts it would be a shitfest, heck I can already see people without alts paying RMT for positive reviews.

Does anyone remember back when Dynamis had to be respectfully scheduled on a server forum. Groups were very competitive and high end LSs were serious business; you had to fill out an application for the majority of them.

During this time ACT had plugins for FFXI: And, those parses were posted to many of the private HNM LS forums. They noted how much damage each person took, healing % and over healing, MP management, debuff and enfeebling managements, AND of course player DPS including accuracy, crit, WS frequency, etc.

Not sure I miss those days, but I loved playing the content at that level. In todays player environment it would become toxic really fast.

Y'all talking about something like a Duty Finder in XI, a concept applied in other games to increase cooperation among strangers....when all moves by the powers that be show they are trying to remove that aspect from XI completely. Those who have their steady 6 can now rule the world- those who sit on 5 or 7 are in a worse place than having no one.

I don't think there's a fix for it, not when the move is intentional. In 18 man content the critique most have is it enables merc mentality as rarely are 18 needed to be functional- but that factor is also what lets groups of any size attempt content with friends even if that produces odd numbers. Sometimes you gotta take the bad with the good.

Party Finder could work but you'd just need to be able to request specific jobs.

PLD WAR SAM COR WHM BRD where only those specific jobs being able to join.

It would be a ***show for sure since someone would join as a COR and swap to PUP but it could work. Never gonna happen though.

I do miss the event scheduling days.

It's not a good argument since people also merc 6 man content like lilith.

A lot of times gathering and organizing a shout party of 6 takes already too long to justify a 30 minute run, let alone doing that with 18 so you need to increase content duration. However the sweet spot for content duration turns out be more around the 15-30 minute mark rather than the 2++ hours of a dyna run.

That's the real argument against alliance content.

Man who would have thought people don't like to be chained to their chairs long enough to risk a blood clot.

Dynamis Mon/Thurs, Vagary Tues/Fri, Omen Wednesday/Sat, day off Sunday. Sign up on the Discord if you can attend.
