Why are YOU a Human?

Why do ppl like to be Humans in fantasy/sci-fi games? Identity/RP? I'm Negan. I'm utterly, completely, stonecold Negan. I was Negan before I even met you. I just needed to meet you properly. You know, I'm Negan.
Jokes aside, I chose Hume for the all around stats before ffxi adjusted race stats. I completely whiffed on stats... completely forgot. thanks!

I find that humans are a good grounding mechanism in fantasy stories. We are easily able to transport to a strange new world if at least we are able to carry over expectations about ourselves over there. This is why most fantasy in general features humans instead of other exclusively "new" races. Bahamut.Negan said: » I didn't want to derail DaneBlood's awesome thread, but it got me wondering. Why do ppl like to be Humans in fantasy/sci-fi games? Identity/RP? I find humans bland in general and it takes a specific character design to make me want to be one. In most video games, they're frail, they're willingly bland as ***, I don't find this appealing. On the other hand, I find the role of a robot pretty interesting. I personally didn't chose Elvaan, my father created the character for me when I was a kid and I have remained the same forever; so it become a part of my identity in-game :).
So I cannot comment on XI, but in other games I do tend to play Human. Typically speaking, you know what you're getting for Humans. Humans tend to be the most well-rounded, highest populated NPCs, and the most prominently cultured race in a lot of MMORGs. Whereas other races might be a wildcard. I actually think FFXI did a good job, lore-wise, in making humans interesting. Instead of just giving them their own city, they have to share the town of Bastok with the Galka, and deal with the social dynamics that surround that. They dont have a hedgehog race...

Because I don't want to be short, fat, nor a Dhalmel. I don't like tail either. ;( As a kid I used to wonder why so many dudes chose Mithra, but a friend of mine explained it to me:
"If you're going to spend 10 hours a day staring at a character's ***, why would you pick anything BESIDES Mithra?" Like, yeah... Did you just assume my racial identity?
Most of my mules were Hume because they make good slaves for the Elvaan Master Race
At the time, I thought they had the best character model. I didn't want to be a female character so no Mithra, I thought Elvaans looked dumb and tall, Galkas were big and clunky, and tarus were too "cutesy" and I wanted to be something cooler than a little tiny child.
Now after however many years of being in game, Gear looks the best on Tarus all the time. Elvaans still look dumb and tall, I'd much rather look on my character than any other attribute I think and being female wouldn't phase me... but... if I could go back, I'd be a Galka for that sweet, sweet HP. No matter what I do in this game, I always come back to wishing I had more HP when it matters. Asura.Vienner

I always thought hume women looked like evilminded stuckup ***. So I went Mithra, I dont have the need to identify with what I'm like irl.

hume = normal people (by FFXI standards...)
elvaan = stuck-up homosexuals mithra = fem furries galka = butch furries taru = closet paedophiles or something along those lines. fonewear said: » I'm not sure if I"m human or a dancer. YouTube Video Placeholder |
