I have been bashing my head against a wall trying to figure out what is going on. FFXI works just fine without Windower enabled but when I launch POL and click in the password box the screen flashes and POL freezes. Tried clean install of Windower and FFXI. Disabled all plugins but I am not even getting to FFXI.

I tried Ashita and that seems to work with the base install but tbo I am not looking to re write all my spellcast scripts.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Its not that. Tried that. Made sure that no compatibility mode is enabled. Aside from reinstalling Windows I have no clue what it could be.

Have you tried lowering/disabling the UAC settings?

Windower wont run on it. No idea why its the Hook *** up on windows 8 and some graphics cards.

Further more. Spellcast does not work on Ashita.

UAC settings wouldnt affect the POL password screen.

All I can think maybe is enabling the 64 bit mode?

Depends on your system specs, but I do know Windows 8 hates FFXI and windower.

Solution: Don't buy windows 8 ever

Thanks for the replies. At this point I guess ill just reinstall Win7 since I know that worked(well it did a year 1/2 ago when I played last). I updated to Win8 since I got it for $15 and said why not. Every other game worked fine so thought nothing of FFXI since I wasn't playing at the time.

There is a Spellcast version for Ashita called Luacast(not sure if its a full featured or not) but in all honesty wasn't looking to reinvent the wheel here.

luacast isnt a working spellcast as far as I'm aware.

It's a play ground that hasn't seen many attemtps, if you know of a working one let me know, I'd be interested in seeing it.

Works fine for me. Doing the UAC off, compatibility modes all unchecked, right click and Run as Administrator (yes, every time).

I run FFXI perfectly fine on Windowers 8. Like the person above me, I have to run as administrator every time with UAC off.

For the people that have no issue with Win8 and Windower, was your Win8 a clean install or a upgrade from a previous Windows version?

Windower has support forums......

Try this. http://forums.windower.net/topic/21847-windows-8/

They patched launcher so it should work. If not, stick with the downgrade.

Windows 8 is a mess for Windower and a new version is eventually coming sometime before Windows 9 releases. lulz

I just wanted to give a update as I figured out what the issue is. The FFXI Ultimate Edition installer put every single .exe to have Windows XP compatibility mode on. I removed it all and voila no crashing in Win8.

I hope this helps people in the future if they have the same issue as me.

There are some issues with some of the plugins, I had to download the ones that were updated. Attainment, infobar, pettp, blinkmenot and recast all work, There was one plugin I like that I can't use cause it crashes pol but the name escapes me. It's just a matter of trial and error to see what plugins will work.

Statustimer is the plugin that causes windower to crash the game, will have to see if they released an update
