MNK is a better tank than WAR generally due to counterstance, chi blast and other useful things. MNK is a top DD, under BLU of course, and I would rather go on MNK than WAR if I was to tank something. NIN is a worse DD than mnk. Usefulness outside of proc is DD, MNK tops NIN therefore its better.

penance is the only real reason for chi blast, unless your weakened and sitting there doing nothing boosting and chi blasting. or trying to claim something fast.

I havent been around for over two year. so, you are right, my gear sucks now. if i were to come back. which isnt happening.
War cant solo for ***, but monk can. I soloed a lot on mnk.
i keep forgetting that everyone has everything leveled/merited now
not every monk had penance merited when i played unless you did salvage/einhendar

Lack of Red Procs, besides that, nothing.
MNK has a few red procs actually. Cyclone, Energy drain, earth crusher, sunburst /nin. Red lotus blade, seraph blade, earth crusher, sunburst, raiden thrust, seraph strike as /war.

the OP is a *** fail for even thinking MNK is useless. We're the most useful job anywhere inside Abyssea, while being one of the fun jobs outside of Abyssea. MNK is my main job and I will say I enjoy beating the ***out of mobs, breaking a sweat, getting my knuckles bruised, and washing blood from my hands.

I don't mean to say it doesn't have any, just that compared to NIN or WAR MNK is not capable of having as many at one time. You can get a fair bit as you mentioned, but you rely on some items that aren't as easy to attain (read seasonal for pitchfork, and I don't have any idea where the sword is from).
