It's what people will do.. You mention rate downs, people will rate you down, because they feel the need to prove they can.

You make a good point and say "This will get rated down", it will get rated up more than it normally would've been.

Basically, people are stupid.

Edit: Also, if you mention rating someone down, and it isn't the general consensus (E.G. Rating down a pathetically stupid post), people will generally rate said post back up.
