I recently rediscovered my old 1st PS1 which I got on release for Xmas all those years ago... It doesn't work and when I switch it on it sounds almost like "KI..LL ME.." but that's beside the point.

I found most of my old favorites for the PS1:

Breath of Fire 3
Front Mission 3
Final Fantasy VII ~ IX
Parasite Eve 2

And I can't seem to get enough, rediscovering these oldies has made me want more. I'm currently using a PS1 emulator called EPSXE and I've found a web site where you can downloa... *ahem* purchase virtually any PS1 game.

I would appreciate any games anyone can recommend from the RPG, Action, Shooter type genre.

Thanks ^_^

FFIX was probably my most played game back then, never got around to completing it though, now's my chance!

If we are talking PS1 and you can get past the sprite graphics and go oldschool you WILL NOT REGRET ever playing this game right here:

Star Ocean 2

Don't worry about SO1 because it was originally for SNES in japan and has VERY little to do with the 1st one. You follow Claude who is the SON of the first games main character.

:D

No seriously go freaking play it >_>

They even made an anime after it which WASN'T half bad honestly.

Thanks, I will ^^

I have Star Ocean: till the end of time on the PS2 and I enjoyed it, but I've always preferred the look and feel of the old PS1 games.

Record it! :D

Definitely get Chrono Cross, it was one of the best PS1 RPGs. Star Ocean: The Second Story was also really good, as well as the Suikoden series.

As for PS1 classics, check out Spyro 1~3(it's more of a platformer than any of the genres you listed, but they're still great games) and Tomb Raider 1~4.

Dot Hack on the PS2. Fun game.
Could check out some of the Tales series available on either console.

Chrono Cross was good. Alot of characters, but IDR if you can get ALL of them. Chrono Trigger was also ported to PSX, with FFIV

Agreed and I'd like to add Suikoden 3, it wasn't as popular as the first 2, but might have been my favorite PS2 rpg along with the Xenosaga series.

If you own a PSP they have it remade for that too which came out at the beginning of 2009.

It has the following advantage over the old PS1 version:

1) New voice acting (almost the ENTIRE game is voice overed)
2) More private actions in towns
3) Full anime style animated cutscenes
4) More challenges and side quests

It's called second evolution for PSP:

I'm surprised Valkyrie Profile wasn't mentioned yet. Yeah, I know they remade it on PSP, but it doesn't have the same feel.

There's also Valkyrie Profile 2 on the PS2. But I haven't played more than a few hours.
Had to leave home for Uni at that time.
How's the game/story for it? Thinking of down- err, buying it one day lol.

In Phantom Brave there was an early level that contained a rabbit that leveled up every turn. If you made a character that blew up when you summoned it, you could let the rabbit max out, then throw something next to it and summon. Boom, rabbit dies (since its health didn't go any higher) and PL to your heart's content. Like 100+ levels every time you did it. >.>;

I also have to mention Final Fantasy Tactics on the original PS1. The newer versions fixed the Job Point glitch.

Aren't Disgaea and Phantom Brave closely related? I mean, I think PB characters appear as secret characters in Disgaea 2 or 3 or something.
