Not 100% Sure, but i think that since the update these items have become an even rarer drop, hence why they are so expencive... hard mobs, not many people kill them, bad drop rate, all adds up to a highly priced item.
A lot of these comments are outdated. For Leathercraft Escutcheons Shield stage 2 you will need to synth 20 Wivre Shields which will require 40x Wivre Hides. I went as THF to Abby-Gustaberg and farmed all 40 in a tad over two hours. Using Nanaa Mihgo as one of my tursts, she occasionally stole one for me.
