This is -in general- the best back piece for WHM and it is exceptionally good in certain situations for the other jobs that can equip it if used properly. For WHM, their -are- better situational/macro pieces but their uses are inherently limited. The enmity reduction on Errant Cape makes a big difference, even if you already have enmity reduction merits. Especially for cures and other healing magic, there is no better back piece to use. Aside from the enmity-5, the mp on this piece is also quite handy.
That being said, you can do your job well enough without Errant Cape and it is by no means a necessity, but it does make a noticeable difference and enables a WHM to do their job better.
If you could only have one back piece on WHM, this is the back piece you would want. However, if you can't afford it there's no shame in going with a cheaper alternative. This IS the back piece for WHMs who want the best.
This is the best cape for endgame WHM. You can boost your -enm or swap out in other places (for example, Walahra turban for Nashira turban for more hp/mp/haste)
Intensifying Cape is a good second alternative that will boost your HP for Devotion at no reduction in MP.
IMHO, Aslan Cape is a white elephant that reduces max HP purely to add 7 hp to an 800 hp cure.
This is not -THE BEST- cape for WHM. This is the best cape for a WHM in a HNM shell who is often in tank pty. For most every other event, -5 Enmity is not gonna make any difference. With the new Aslan cape I rather have that for a boost to my Cure Vs than this.

Saying this is "By far" the best back piece for WHM is stupid. Unless your tanks are so terrible that the -5 enmity is going to make or break you, you can probably make better use of a different back piece that fits better into your personal setup.
This is NOT to say that Errant Cape is bad. Its a fine cape and is great for WHMs who are PLD main and fighting against +enmity merits. But most WHMs will never have to worry about stacking far past -25 enmity. Build to your gear, don't buy what people call "the best."
