I'm looking at building a new rig with 2x GTX 1080's SLI bridged. Will I face any problems with FFXI?

You'll very likely experience TDRs due to nvidia driver issues when using SLI. They're much less common, but still occur, with a single 1080.
If you want a completely stable pc for XI, you pretty much have to go radeon. Offline

Actually, I switched from 980 TI to AMD R9 Nano.
Weather effects caused random POL crashing in FFXI for 980 TI. I switched to AMD R9 Nano because (1) ITX form Factor (2) 100W lower than 980Ti and (3) I suspected that upgrading from 550 Ti to 980 Ti that my pol crashing was due to latest nvidia not being backwards compatible. So, I went with R9 Nano. First AMD graphics card since 2005 and I couldn't happier. Run multiple instances for days at a time with no issues. i'd go with a single 1080 ti over sli 1080. ti is a 35% increase over 1080 and sli will only boost performance over a single 1080 by 10-15%. not only that but, the 10-15% is only in games that actually work with sli AND are optimized well for it. i'd put the extra money in a better/bigger ssd, better ram, or just set it aside for a second ti. currently doing a build with a 1080ti and did a fair amount of research on the sli vs ti.
Whzt iz your goal with the gaming pc ?
Cause, if your goal is only XI.... a potato or a toaster can run XI. |
