Hey guys, having an issue with sound on my laptop. Everything went quiet last night, I've restarted, reinstalled the drivers and even asked windows to detect problems(like this has ever done anything useful).

I don't think it's the speakers themselves since I still have no sound with headphones in.

Any ideas?

Exactly what drivers did you reinstall?

Sounds like you may have multiple audio out devices and one has hold of the audio, probably the hdmi. Or something is seriously messed up, without looking it's near impossible to discern however.

Sounds like a windows 95 virus.

The audio drivers I uninstalled were the basic ones that windows installs (Intel(R) Display Audio). After uninstalling and restarting 3 times I finally got sound back. It isn't the first time this has happened but it usually only takes a restart to fix it.

Either way the problem is sorted...for now. Thanks for the replies

Those are the drivers that handle your audio over your GPU, typically through HDMI/DP, not your actual audio (unless that's how you're doing your sound, but it wouldn't be for headphones).

Hence my inquiry.

You can try.......

Right click sound in the bottom right hand corner.

Pick playback devices.

Right click any empty space within the window itself, and make sure show disabled devices is on.

If it shows up, enable it.
