updated sim to allow custom gear. there should be a txt file 'sam_equip.txt' just make a folder and put it and the sam.exe (which is located in the dist folder) in it.

there is also an example of how the gear should be formatted, i recommend using notepad++ to add or edit equipment.
Code
        job.str = strength
        job.dex = dexterity

        job.skill = great katana skill
        job.acc = accuracy
        job.atk = attack

        job.da = double attack
        job.ta = triple attack
        job.qa = quad. attack

        job.crit_rate = critical hit rate
        job.crit_dmg = crit. damage

        job.stp = store tp

        job.eq_haste = haste

        job.tp_bonus = tp bonus
        job.wsd = weapon skill damage
        job.conserve_tp = conserve tp

Been asked often recently(link). The answer is you technically can but it's much more complicated than checking a status as you need to read the roll packets and no known implementation exists

[Edit] Considering different COR also have different potency gear (Barataria ring vs Regal necklace), you'd have to set that manually every time to have an accurate value

Hello friends, I'm back with a vengeance

I've made a decent amount of progress, but still sitting on +2 af things
I also got 600 JP, so I can equip Su3 stuff!
also been working on getting doji, but only halfway thru ru'aun, so it's gonna be a little bit before I can say I have one

So, my question(s):
1- what kendatsuba gear should I actually invest in (nq)?
2- i like using plrm on occasion, which polearms are actually useful? Raetic? Blurred?

thanks as always

Big update to my sam sim. Added Koga and AM3, added Rana set and updated stats tab to reflect. Added save_tp as a a stat and miser's roll. split ws_acc on gear like fotia pieces. fixed an issue with shoha not getting it's attack boost on ws. Added a few grips since I split utu as well.

What's interesting is how competitive Nepenthe Grip +1 is with utu for SAM if the acc and attack aren't coming into play.

Koga will use rana at 3K to maintain AM3 but otherwise uses Fudo at 1K. AM3 is pretty weak, though, since it interferes with zanhasso.

On that subject, though, looking for confirmation that AM3 procs before Zanhasso.

You won't see very big differences in ws average when changing shoha/rana sets since it's all based on Fudo spam. Next UI update will have the option to choose which WS to use at 1K, mostly to find differences between gear to obtain a good average.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7LcJujrpsg-TzBGZ3ZUWmhVQlk

You'll need the sam_equip.txt and the sam.exe in the same folder. The sam_equip.txt will allow you to add your own gear if you choose, but it's required either way to have it even if it's an empty text file.

Regarding DT sets, are the ones on the first page still good indicators to go by, or have there been significant changes? I realized I have somewhat limited DT options for my SAM, currently. I'm looking at moonbeam/moonlight pieces as a stop-gap measure. If anyone's got alternatives, let me know.

edit: I don't have loricates or d.ring. idk, the game hates me.

Something like this would be really good for SAM. You should have different levels of DT but his one is capped with good Meva/Mdb without losing much DPS.

I take a slightly different approach

ItemSet 354729

Path D legs, 5 stp or higher greaves. Gives you capped haste, a 4 hit build and like 49 PDT. I personally almost never use a physical DT/hybrid set any more since I just about always have a GEO using Wilt, but a magical hybrid set (utilizing 4/5 kendatsuba) is incredibly powerful.

Thanks for the set, I'll see what I can do here...
As for the 4/5 Ken, I guess fill in back/waist/ammo/neck/acc slots with DT and rely on Ken's meva? Obviously +3 hands can't be taken out, in any case.
Think I'd take a bit of a hit to accept in that case, but then again I'd probably be switching around depending on situation and making up w/ food.

So I'm currently using this as my TP set. I know I need Utu Grip, but I'm more or less looking at my leg options. My Valorous Hose have 45 ACC, 17 ATT, 4 DA, and 2 QA, just making sure they do out-perform Kenda legs.

@Fox: depends if you want a pure defensive set or if you don't want to sacrifice your 5 hit build. I still use a 4 hit with my M. Eva set which requires stp accessories across the board except for Staunch (which imo, is probably the most important of the accessories anyway.) If you want a DT/M. Eva mix without regards to hit build then I'd say go for 4/5 ken and DT accessories.

@Firedemon: Very likely those are better than Kendatsuba but it's impossible to know because there are no good models for actual TPing, only WS dmg. I imagine they're pretty close. The only real edge from Kendatsuba is the defensive aspect.

you can add them to my sim to compare. it’s more in line with in game results.

without seeing your ws set, I can't say for sure. But with no rolls and using hq ken for body/legs and hq belt, you're not going to really notice a difference:
Code
Simulated Average: amanomurakumo 5076.91  (WS :  22159.15 )
AA Percent: 0.19 WS Percent: 0.81

Three Minute Sims.: amanomurakumo

     4793.15  (WS :  20383.23 )
     5244.73  (WS :  21641.84 )
     5308.58  (WS :  21810.39 )
     5061.07  (WS :  21978.05 )
     5089.29  (WS :  21645.02 )
     5169.52  (WS :  23128.02 )
     5134.49  (WS :  22580.58 )

Simulated Average: amanomurakumo 5100.86  (WS :  22111.08 )
AA Percent: 0.19 WS Percent: 0.81

Three Minute Sims.: amanomurakumo

     5697.1  (WS :  23729.6 )
     5339.84  (WS :  23902.34 )

and just because it's such an underrated piece when you're not in need of the magic evasion, kasuga domaru with your legs:
Code
Simulated Average: amanomurakumo 5229.78  (WS :  21212.08 )
AA Percent: 0.17 WS Percent: 0.83

Three Minute Sims.: amanomurakumo

     5374.26  (WS :  21931.66 )
     5513.42  (WS :  22563.26 )
     5227.04  (WS :  21634.01 )
     5195.63  (WS :  20824.49 )
     5147.86  (WS :  20196.65 )
     5338.07  (WS :  22149.66 )
     5397.52  (WS :  21570.53 )
     5372.44  (WS :  21933.74 )
     5488.1  (WS :  20462.35 )

of course the results will differ a little bit each time you run the simulation. and again, these are without factoring rolls, which will mix it up a bit

also while messing around with stuff for fd's set, I noticed a bug with koga am3 where it prevented zanhasso procs and didn't proc on ws.

new upload fixes those, but i still need confirmation if proc order is qa > ta > da > am3 > zanhasso or qa > ta > da > zanhasso > am3, fairly sure it's the former.

I made a small gear update to my SAM simulation, mostly some Ryuo pieces.

Ryuo path C seem to be the best TP feet.

Using Ejin's current set:
ItemSet 266064

Three Minute Sims.: masamune

7642.83 (WS : 26563.52 )
7901.29 (WS : 27499.8 )
7650.82 (WS : 27475.87 )
7832.12 (WS : 25898.0 )
7988.17 (WS : 26874.15 )
8158.71 (WS : 27283.78 )
7853.28 (WS : 28804.0 )
7658.9 (WS : 27923.82 )
8057.37 (WS : 27182.26 )
7772.17 (WS : 25820.15 )

And swapping the QA Greaves to Ryuo +1 path C:

Three Minute Sims.: masamune

9090.79 (WS : 30549.06 )
9081.25 (WS : 31046.98 )
8320.3 (WS : 27706.69 )
8117.93 (WS : 28509.83 )
8417.33 (WS : 28529.74 )
8412.41 (WS : 29432.09 )
8322.2 (WS : 28429.26 )
7334.9 (WS : 26895.07 )
8038.85 (WS : 28735.76 )
8018.23 (WS : 27026.79 )

Is that enough data points to give a solid estimate? Ryuo WS's are significantly higher even though it sounds like you're not touching WS gear at all.

I have two outputs. One is 5000 attack rounds, so over 2.5 hours of combat. And several three minute results. The TP/WS split is due to the fact than a Zanshin from Hasso generates more than twice the TP as a normal hit and more likely to generate TP overflow affecting WS damage. Here are two 5000 melee round examples, granted these will be lower averages since you maintain AM3:

QA:
Simulated Average: masamune 7826.54 (WS : 28107.32 )
AA Percent: 0.25 WS Percent: 0.75

Ryuo C:
Simulated Average: masamune 7964.98 (WS : 28246.78 )
AA Percent: 0.23 WS Percent: 0.77

Those numbers certainly look more reasonably higher, hehe.

I do realize that I was misreading the stats on the ryuo feet, I always thought they were just +10% atk on zanshins. +10% zanshin hits is pretty nice...

well in three minutes, ~100 attack rounds, you're more prone to the various random effects. so you could probably just get all your zanhaso procs on the last hit before a ws and get a lot of overflow that way. and yeah, they're the same as the hasso gifts.

I just used the three minute results since most fights are short anyways

I'm aware of that, that's why I asked if it was enough data points in the first place, hehe.

3 minute is fine as a benchmark but I'd say if you really want to be able to say one is better, 10 iterations seems like it would have too much randomness.

i mean i could print out several thousand if i wanted to, but that's annoying. even the ones that run for 2.5 hours will still have a small difference between itself a percent or two. three minute results you'll get differences of up to 25% i've seen. I personally feel like you should gear less towards a perfect average and aim for less variance, since fights typically aren't very long.'

let's say I was comparing flamma +2 instead of ryuo, it produces similar results than the QA but has less variance, so I'd recommend that even if the QA was ~1% or so on average. (also no RNG augments.)

There's no need to print out all of them since your sim prints out the average anyways right?

I don't really have a strong opinion on which style to gear on (consistency vs max damage), I just thought the numbers looked a little too extreme for swapping one piece of gear.

It prints one result of 5000 attack rounds (about 2.5 hours, it also maintains AM3 for Masa/Koga) and ten 3 Minute simulations. In both situations each weapon starts with 3K TP, so in a three minute fight, there is no need to maintain AM3, so a lot of why the DPS is higher is due to that. A full result will look like this:
Code
Simulated Average: kogarasumaru 7157.96  (WS :  25112.94 )
AA Percent: 0.1 WS Percent: 0.9

Three Minute Sims.: kogarasumaru

     7609.33  (WS :  26080.86 )
     6971.67  (WS :  24262.1 )
     7535.85  (WS :  25280.87 )

Actually I had some WS gear wrong, it was the same WS set between the two feet changes, just the list shifted when I added Ryuo gear so non-wsd valorous was being used:

So Flamma +2:
Code
Simulated Average: masamune 7887.73  (WS :  28262.1 )
AA Percent: 0.24 WS Percent: 0.76

Three Minute Sims.: masamune

     8628.09  (WS :  29478.45 )
     8632.85  (WS :  30217.3 )
     7935.66  (WS :  27690.48 )
     8052.82  (WS :  30196.68 )
     8205.29  (WS :  29865.06 )
     8128.7  (WS :  27645.08 )
     8092.43  (WS :  29812.6 )
     8145.89  (WS :  29062.48 )
     8081.22  (WS :  27543.49 )
     7696.68  (WS :  28611.9 )

QA Greaves:
Code
Simulated Average: masamune 7896.13  (WS :  28274.7 )
AA Percent: 0.24 WS Percent: 0.76

Three Minute Sims.: masamune

     8557.3  (WS :  29193.86 )
     8864.39  (WS :  29417.04 )
     8399.31  (WS :  29217.1 )
     8893.66  (WS :  29551.96 )
     8298.86  (WS :  28734.6 )
     7676.57  (WS :  26878.67 )
     7819.19  (WS :  27528.69 )
     8373.01  (WS :  29443.37 )
     8813.24  (WS :  29194.4 )
     8021.58  (WS :  28049.32 )

Ryuo C Feet:
Code
Simulated Average: masamune 8189.87  (WS :  28718.92 )
AA Percent: 0.23 WS Percent: 0.77

Three Minute Sims.: masamune

     8261.5  (WS :  29377.31 )
     7762.49  (WS :  25878.02 )
     8578.47  (WS :  29767.15 )
     8639.24  (WS :  30532.59 )
     8392.78  (WS :  29295.34 )
     8398.33  (WS :  29369.81 )
     7915.38  (WS :  29450.05 )
     8089.35  (WS :  29037.16 )
     8063.76  (WS :  28849.3 )
     8314.43  (WS :  28994.38 )

And like I said, even the simulated average can shift a percent or two either way. For example, here is another run with Flamma +2 feet and the proper WS items:
Code
Simulated Average: masamune 7780.33  (WS :  27951.16 )
AA Percent: 0.25 WS Percent: 0.75

Three Minute Sims.: masamune

     8491.46  (WS :  28951.83 )
